I just use the "Snipping Tool" that comes with win vista/7. Does everything I need it to!

If I have to think of a downside to it though, is that it saves everything as .flv so its harder to edit then most things.

Ayn Rand is the author for people who want to act like complete douche-bags, but don't have the balls to just admit that they are douche-bags.
"There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs."

Version 1 release April 12th. Then I don't think it will be free any longer.Since everybody else is talking about versions of the product where you HAVE to pay, currently Xsplit is in Open Beta (not sure how much longer that will last, has been for a long time now) and is free. You do lose out on a few features (you have to use Speex audio codec if you don't pay and the "game source" option won't work) but if you just need to record your desktop it should be fine.
