  1. HI , Last week I took the plunge and managed to get hold of a bargain, the Thermaltake Aquarius liquid cooler for
  2. I think this is where your heat is coming from, I'm not sure about the 1700 athlons but the 2400 (or mine ) runs at 1.66 volts and more volts does equal more temp.
  3. Something that can give a false temp reading is weight from the cpu heatsink and fan this causes air to get between the heatsink and the chip in much the same way as a rough heatsink (i.e. one that hasn't been lapped). One way to test for this is to gently push the heatsink while running your temp reading software, if the temp drops by more than 5C then you have an air trap. To remedy this in most cases a simple bending of the heatsink clap or gentle tighting of the mounting screws although not too much or you'll crack the core of the cpu. I guess this is the only cure for thisproblem untill a way of bonding the heatsink to the cpu is found.
  4. Yeah I have to admit I'm not a lover of the Xaser styling either, give me a nice bit of brushed alloy anyday
  5. This could well be true, the Alpha is only 3 levels and almost 1.07GB so christ knows what the full game will be, and to think the original was on floppies
  6. The fan just clips on, push the tabs away from the fan on one side and lift the fan as you push and you (should) feel it pop out then repeat on the other side. I removed mine a few days ago to try an Aero blower fan (model:AAB-L81-ET) and yes the problem with the noise stopped, unfortunately tho this fan just doesn't push enough air to cool an AMD 2400xp the temps increased by about 5c. Hope this helps
  7. I have recently bought a coolermaster Q keyboard http://www.coolermasterusa.com/Product.aspx?ID=44 Although the layout is taking some time to get use to ( I got thrashed at quake yesterday like you would not belive ) on the whole I'm more than happy with it.
  8. Having caught the modding bug myself and viewed some very over the top cases in the past few months I thought to myself when is enough enough, I have seen some cases that can only be compared to a Wurlitzer jukebox and yet these only differ very slightly from works of real art. I guess its up to personal taste but there must be a limit of taste with some mods. Wonders how far off diamante knobs and disco balls really are.
  9. Hmm? I tend to stay well away from wd drives, yep they may be fast but they just don't last any time at all (or maybe it's just me that has been unlucky with them). Also isn't the raptor only 36 GB? sure its 10,000 rpm but speed is no subsitute for space and it costs much more per MB than any other sata drive. but each to there own I guess?
  10. Something I find worrying is the amount of heat sata drive make (or it could just be seagate ones?), I haven't put a probe on it yet but it's way the hottest thing in my case including the cpu.
  11. I recently got the ST3120026AS model (120gb 8.5read) and yep they are very quiet as for speed well I've heared reports of booting times dropping but actual drive speed isn't much different.
  12. I have this heatsink/fan and today I found something out about the whine you talk about. Today I got delivery of 6 nice new laser cut fan grills (bought a few cos they where going cheap) anyway after cutting away half my case and installing two in the back I thought to myself "Hmmm.... lets try one on the hs/f" anyway it sounded awful (like a cheap whore trying to suck a golf ball thru a hose pipe) but this gave me an idea to try a normal metal finger grill instead of that black plastic thing and low and behold the sound does go down Another thing I'm going to try with this hs/fan is using a shim as it doesn't seem to fit very tight to the core. Also has anyone tried lapping one of theses yet? mines unlapped and seems to do the job running at:high 30's idle and about 46 under load, but I'm debating about it as well heat is heat and you can never get them temps down enough.
  13. Confession time Ok, ok .... I use frontpage (oh the shame!). But in all honesty it's not as bad as people make out, sure it can be hard work but it's easy to pick up. Yes Dreamweaver is stacks better but you get what you pay for and be honest do you need all these features? Just to prove a point I have both and I only use dreamweaver for cleaning up code, this coming from a bloke thats been writing websites for about (ahem) too many years. so why not download a trail copy, if it's not your thang then what have you lost? if it is then you could save some money.
  14. Ahh it's not a problem, just an idea
