  1. Right around $200 is my budget, a little less would be better. This rig is mainly gaming.
  2. So my rig is pretty outdated. I have an old AMD 3700+ in there along with a nf4 DFI board that have seen better days. So I'm going to get a new motherboard, CPU, and ram and I think I have come up with this: AMD Athlon II X3 435 Rana ASUS M4A77D 2x1GB G.SKILL ram DDR2 1066 Does this sound like a winning combo? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
  3. I don't think I'm gonna replace the mobo, CPU, and memory anymore; but yeah I guess I was originally thinking of pretty much a whole new rig haha. As for the optical drive, I really needed a new one anyways, I took the current one off of a really old dell I found laying around, lol, the thing has to be at least 7 years old.
  4. Alright thanks guys, I guess I'll put off the CPU and mobo and that stuff, if it ain't broken don't fix it right? I think I'll go with the tuner DLS suggested too and throw in a BD drive.
  5. Hey guys, so here's the deal, I want to make my PC into an HTPC. Pretty much what I want it to do is play movies, watch TV, and do a bit of gaming (I'm pretty happy how my current setup handles all the games I play). So what I want to do is get a 1TB HDD, DVD burner (yes, I somehow managed all this time only with a really old DVD read-only drive), TV tuner (preferably with a dual tuner), and I'm thinking I should really update my CPU/Mobo/Ram because, well, they're pretty outdated. My current setup is: AMD 3700+ ~ 2900 MHz DFI Lanparty nF4 SLI-D Crucial 4x512MB PC3200 EVGA 8800GT 250GB Western Digital HDD OCZ GameXstream 600W psu Thermalright XP-120 Heatsink Thermaltake Tsunami Dream case Right now I've picked out: WD Caviar Black 1TB HDD and this Samsung DVD burner So I really need some help on picking out a TV tuner, CPU, motherboard, and ram. I'm looking to spend like $500 max, but the cheaper the better. Thanks in advance!
  6. Woops, thought the profile thing was my sig :/ (sorry, new here). Thanks for posting it for me. Do I really need a quad core? This computer is going to be mainly for gaming. Here's what I thinking of going with so far: Processor: E8500 Ram: Muskin 2x2GB DDR2 1000 Motherboard: DFI Lanparty Dark P45 Plus
  7. Hi guys, I've had my current rig (in profile) for a while now and decided it's time for an upgrade. I'm looking to spend around $500 on a new processor, memory, and motherboard. For the processor I think I'm going to go with the E8400. For the motherboard I want something with SLI, probably a 780i? And I have pretty much no clue what ram to get, but I want 4GB. Any suggestions? Also, will my current PSU be enough for all of this and possibly another graphics card if I get one in the future? Thanks in advance.
  8. I've been using SUPER, it will convert almost any file to anything else, and the best part, it's free. http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html
  9. Thank you so much. I ram memtest and got like, 300 errors. I put the other 2 sticks of ram in that I took out when it didn't post (I have 4, don't know why I typed 2 in my sig before) and I'm running memtest now and so far so good. Thanks again for the help.
  10. Hi guys, I've been haveing some problems lately. The other day I decided to flash my bios to the 3/29/2006 because... well, I don't really know why. Yeah, I can do some stupid things sometimes. So anyways, I flash it using winflash because my floppy drive wasn't working. I restart my computer and it wouldn't post (I had 3 diagnostic leds lit up with the fourth one flashing). So I do a search, and saw I had to clear my CMOS. I do that for 10 minutes, and I got into the bios, loaded optimal defaults, then booted into Windows. Then, my computer restarted after being in Windows for a couple of minutes. After that it kept restarting at the Windows loading screen until if finally gave me a BSOD. So today, I decided to try and reflash it. I downloaded TMOD's Bios Flash CD, and flashed it to the 4/06/2006 one, cleared my CMOS for 30 seconds, loaded optimal defaults, got into Windows, and it restarted again. So, yeah, I have no clue what to do now. Thanks in advance and you guys rock.
  11. Before you buy a new one, make sure the drive was set as master. I had the same problem when I first built my computer, and it would take forever to get into Windows. When I checked the bios, it said my drive was set as a slave.
