G500 Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 (edited) Hey everyone, i am buying a new case in some days and i came across a doubt and i need help to make my decision. After doing my research on the stores in my area and looking at the cases they have available the choice came down to 2 cases that caught my eye, the Nzxt Phantom and the Thermaltake Kandalf Silver Aluminum VA9000SWA. I have an old crush on the Kandalf and it is an excellent case but the Phantom is more modern and also seems to be really well built. Please share you opinions and help me decide Here are the product links to remind you people. http://www.nzxt.com/new/products/crafted_series/phantom http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/xasercase/kandalf/swa/va9000swa.htm Edited December 12, 2010 by G500
El_Capitan Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 Both look really cool! I would pick the Kandalf just because it's so different looking. However, Thermaltake fans are noisier and fail faster than most other stock case fans, just so you know.
Heeron Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 I'd go with the Phantom, I built a rig for my brother with it and it's was a nice case to work with. Keep in mind tough that if your motherboard has the 8pin up top, make sure the 8pin cable is long enough, was a tight fit when I used Corsair TX650w but it worked. Savan Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 I have had 2 NZXT cases in the past, and I have been very happy with both of them. I'd recommend the phantom

sticknstone Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 If the 8 pin cable is too short there is always the option to use an extension cable.
Boinker Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 Well It depends on what you intend to do with your computer later on in life. All I am putting forth is to make sure you have extended options for future development of your computer. Say if you wanted to set a new record on occ for best 3dmark11 The Phantom supports up to a 350mm GFX card so to today's specs you should be able. As far as water-cooling goes it looks like either can support it but not well. If you wanted to store the accounting data for the past ten years in a raid ten in there that would be great cause they would both be well fit to do that. In short, to be honest with you neither of them draw my attention as much as I like. But if I had to choose between the two I would pick the phantom. The thermaltake (no offence) looks like an aging giant to me And every time I look at the front its Eye scream "danger will robertson, Danger". (I officially just dated myself) which the same can be said about the My case the HAF932. The Phantom has good lines and looks the part of a top of the line case. I'd get it. G500 Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 (edited) Thank you all for your opinions, please keep them coming, they are really helpful. And by the way could someone recommend a nice temperature monitor for the case? My house tends to warm up pretty much not only in the summer but also in the winter so i like to keep an eye out for the temps, since my case is in a nice position to glance at it's much quicker than checking a software temp monitor.
