ANother 460, or a 680

Recommended Posts

Hey Y'all,

I'm looking into building a new rig, and I'm deciding on graphics card. Basically, should I spend $75 on another GTX460, and run in SLI, or should I drop $280 on a GTX 680? I'm not too bothered about getting the best looking graphics EVAR, I just want to be able to run my games in 1080, with smooth frame rates for a decent price. Thoughts?

Two GTX 460's is about the same as a GTX 580. If you're going to spend $280 on a GTX 680, I would recommend the extra $50 for a GTX 970, even with the 4GB VRAM issue, it'll probably locked down with drivers to use only 3.5GB. If you're buying used, a GTX 680 can be found for about $150 shipped, or a little more for a GTX 770 (which should still have warranty, and if it's Gigabyte, ASUS, and MSI, they're serial-based warranty).

I purchased my msi 290 gaming from the egg for $220 after mir plus a pair of really nice headphones.

The people who are (GREEN) with envy lol will tell you blah blah power consumption blah blah less efficient

but at the end of the day it amounts to pennies a day at best.

so my advice is buy the best card you can afford green or red.

I could have purchased a gtx 970 but at the time it was $359 for thr 970 and it was $249 before mir

and the performance difference was negligible and at 4k it was a no brainer      :wallbash:
