  1. yeah but id rather have something that works, rather than somethingthat dies right away. im still opened to get a wd black, but this experience leaves a scar. had to cop out 13 dollars to send the thing back, i just cant take risks and lose money. ill try a chance at the drive another time, just a bad first experience with this wd black drive. im sure you know how it all is, you have bad experience with a product line and lose money, you hesitate to try again, that's me right now.
  2. It's not really replacing, as the WD didn't even work from the start. I guess im just in shock from this experience and my seagate has never failed me, so the only good theoretical thing to do is get a seagate for $80, whereas there is no more deal on the WD black that is selling for $110 at the least....I mean unless I have to "wait it out" for this defective batch to be gone.....idk what it is.
  3. Of course, I have. I have a second hdd in my system and the WD was going to be my third, I used the cable and port from that hdd to test with my WD Black also, then used the same cable and ports on my secondary hdd. My ports were not faulty, the WD was faulty.
  4. Well I knew there was something wrong when windows would take forever to booth with the WD black plugged in. Upon restart, the S.M.A.R.T feature on the bios detected the drive as bad and failing, and it was right. The drive would appear and dissapear when booted up. After about 2 reboots the drive just totally stopped working with the smart error, I had to take out the WD Black drive. But from what I heard this particular model had problems and I probably got a bad batch from newegg, which is why im not gonna ask for a replacement, I might end up with the same defective batch. I wont find a deal like this again, but for reliability I'm going to buy a seagate barracuda 7200 (which I have in my system right now, has never broken down).
  5. well........acronis really effed up my night. got my wd black, cloned. and now a bunch of problems............super slow startuptimes and it didnt even clone my drive! the wd is empty, then a corrupt recycle bin....man wtf did i get myself into. NEVER doing this acronis crap AGAIN! edit: found out the wd couldnt write because of bad sectors. this drive was BAD from the start, what a way for a first impression with a wd device. rma time, what a failure!
  6. ....tt barely survived intel burn for 3 runs (compared to what i had yesterday succesfully running 20 times on very high with medium llc), for some reason it stays on 1.24v on ibt, looks like ill have to change llc to medium again......and live with that 1.29v.
  7. Thanks that did the job. For some reason it was ok yesterday with medium 25% llc, but i had to set it to 0% regular to get it to stop increasing. I guess this means another p95 stabibility test just to make sure......
  8. Yesterday I got my i5 3570k overclocked to a stable 4.3ghz with a 1.264 voltage. I used occt and indeed the max was about 1.26v. Today I loaded up occt again, this time maxing up to 1.29v! I checked my components, overclock settings and etc, (nothing was changed at all) and it was the same as yesterdays configuration, but for no reason at all the voltage increased today! Is this normal? Or am I facing something wrong with my computer!?
  9. awww yeah! sweet! so convenient! thanks for the information!
  10. How does one go about replicating the entire contents of a hard drive to another, so that the other hard drive becomes the bootable disk? Right now, the wd black is on a shell shocker deal at newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136533 Cheap as it will get so I got one, I want to replicate what I have on my seagate hardrive now and make the copy on the WD black, do I have to mess with the bios boot options? Also will putting a hard drive on below another hard drive in a hard drive bay in a computer case cause heat problems? I only have one space left for the WD black right below my seagate, and there is a fan directly blow to those hard drives from the front.
  11. sweet info here. I was planning on getting a wd black also but they cost alot, estimated times for the hard drive prices to go down again is 2014......damn flood. I have a seagate barracuda right now, it boots pretty fast but wanted a 2nd drive to store my videos on to edit from that drive, we black looks like it'll fit the deal.
  12. I finally figured out the problem. Apparently manually setting my ddr3 speed to 1333 was the culprit. I needed my 1600 ram to run at my slower sticks so I thought manual was the way to do it. Turns out I had to set it on auto for my computer not to have apps crash (such as the amd catalyst as I was describing) on startup with a 4.2ghz overclock. Did a Stress level very high run test on IBT for 20 times, it passed all 20. Now I'm going to run prime 95 for 15 hours+ to see stabibility. Temps for Prim95 reaching 70max, for IBT 80 max, I just hope those arent bad temps, I might even try 4.4 next or lowering my voltage (it needs 1.22v to get to 4.2ghz.........which is uncommon for most people, usually it's lower). edit: Alas 4.2ghz is the highest it can go without the temps going too high, but now I'm satisfied I got the extra 200mhz overclock out of this chip.
  13. hold up, are the squealing noises very high pitched but a bit fainted noises? cuz if it is, i always get it during intro screens in crysis......with my amd card.
  14. Yeah i tried that, and it's insane. this time my AMD catalyst was working on startup and nothing crashed but i reached near 1.4v with the positive offset with max temps at 80 degrees celsius. me having to increase by .3v just to get 200mhz more overclock seems excessive. So i went back to a negative offset and it pretty much BSOD on me right away.changed load line to high but temperature and voltage is off the roof! I changed profile to xmp and changed the last timing to fit the slowest memory stick with the 4.2ghz overclock, but again the overclock itself was too high on voltage and heat, but since the timing worked fine on auto with 4.0ghz I put it back to auto. So here I am, back perfectly stable on 4.0ghz, but can't get 200mhz overclock for the life of me without the computer crashing. here's a picture with your settings used, it's too insane for a 200mhz increase, and note i only did a few seconds of prime 95, i immediately stopped the tests:
