  1. So recently I have put one r9 280x in my main PC (pulled off from my mining rig) to play some games. At first all was good...getting adequate frame rates on different games such as Thief, Bioshock Infinite, Cyrsis 3 etc. Then all of a sudden I started experiencing a massive constant frame drop: for example I launch Crysis 3 and instead of getting the usual 50fps, I am getting 15fps at most on Very High settings. Turning the settings to low will only gain me 5 fps. I replaced the card with another one and same thing. After 2 days of playing with drivers the problem was gone...until today I launched Crysis 3 and BAM...the problem is back. Same thing on other games...e.g. Bioshock getting around 40fps instead of the usual 80fps and so on. I monitored the activity level on the VGA during gaming and it is in the normal level of 99% and therefore it is not being underutilised. FYI, Cpu is i5 [email protected] and 8GB 1600mhz RAM. AMD Driver is 14.4 (also tried with 13.12) Any suggestions before I go crazy? Thanks
  2. Final update - I've put some washers and the backplate is now very secure. This dropped a couple of degrees! Anyway, I'm still not getting the temperature as low as it used to be before (p95 load temps: 60-65) but they are still decent. Will reseat the CPU when I get the chance as I've removed and reinstalled the block a couple of times now with the same thermal paste. Thanks for the tips guys.
  3. I've tried setting the CPU voltage to both Auto (cpuz reports 1.2v on load) and set it to Manually to like 1.1v even and only made a slight difference in temperature (2-4 degrees).
  4. I had only used the H80 on the p67 whereas the H80i only on the z77; I hope its clearer now.
  5. Yes I have new complete kit with new fans. I've played around with Corsair Link settings and it did not do much difference from settings fan speeds to balanced to performance / full speed etc. Sorry I forgot to mention that idling 20-25 with my h80i was normally during Winter - ambient temperature usually goes down well below 20. However in hotter days, my old h80i would give me idle temps of around 27-33 (give or take) In the case of the H80i, ambient temperature was around 24 degrees with the AC on. What really matters is the load temperatures (using prime95) though. With the same ambient temperature and at the same clock speed/voltage, the H80 would give me temperatures of around 60 while the new cooler almost reached the 80s. The stock cooler does not perform much far away from the latter I may add... As I said above, I've tried all type of settings but did not make a large difference. Also, it is also good to mention that I am currently using an Asrock z77 Extreme4 board instead of my p67 fatality pro (RMAed). So the new H80i has only been tested out on the z77. Although the cpu block seems tightly fit to the board, can a loose backplate be causing a problem? I've found a thread were a guy mentioned that the Extreme4 is kinda thin and would need extra washers to secure the backplate to the board. In fact, I'll try it out this weekend and let you all know.
  6. So a few weeks ago, my H80's pump died out and I sent it to Corsair for a replacement. They sent me the newer H80i which I then installed and proceeded to check out temperature and stuff. For the record, with my older H80, my i5 2500k @ 4.4ghz was idling at around 20-25 while with Prime95 load reaches temperatures around 55, which was pretty good. ...However with the new H80i, the cpu is idling around 35-40 degrees and reaching high 70s temperatures during stress test. I know this is still "safe" but are relatively too high for such cooler (especially comparing them to my older one). I have tried re-seating it; made sure it was properly attached to the backplate; applied MX-4 thermal paste instead; made sure the fans are in the correct position etc etc. The pump is also working well as Corsair Link2 reports it at around 2000+ rpm. I have run out of ideas about this...so here I am writing this thread. Thanks!

  8. In the last couple of weeks I have upgraded my rig with a Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi Titanium, and all was well until on one particular day I began experiencing distorted sound while using my headphones. My first hunch was that the headphones had gone bad. Not an hour later, the distortion had stopped completely and the sound was working perfectly. This has happened on other two occasions, but the distortion would eventually go away after some time. Today, the same problem occurred on my speakers and so I realized that the source of the distortion were not my peripherals. So I'm guessing its a sound card issue...the problem is that the distortion happens so randomly and without any warning that I don't have any idea what to do about it. I should also point out that the distortion also disappears on a system reboot. Any help and suggestions please?
  9. Ok, so I have recently purchased 2 x Aerocool Sharks 140mm which are attached to a fan controller. Lately, one of the fan started to make a strange whirring noise if fan speed is set to MED or HIGH. Moreover, if I move my hand or use something to block some of the airflow coming out, the noise stops, but starts again as soon as I remove it. Any ideas or fixes? Or should I just send it back?

  11. merry christmas and gratz to all winners
  12. yeah voltage helps but don't forget that your card will run hotter did you mean you saw achievements of 2000mhz on memory on air cooling? O_O
  13. mushkin is also a good brand and gskill is usually a good overclocker
