stackrainer Posted November 12, 2012 Posted November 12, 2012 Right now I have a hd 6870, and I was wondering what video card you guys would recommend for my new monitor (catleap) which is 2560x1440. I was thinking maybe a gtx 670, then sli whenever i need it, but would i need 4gb's for the future or not? it'll be used for heavy gaming. BTW: catleap monitor is AMAZING. I came from a 1600x900 display and this is just so much better.

I came from a 1600x900 display and this is just so much better. I have no problems gaming with dual 6870s on my 27" 2560x1440 display, and you can probably pick a second one up for ~120 bucks. Keep in mind at that resolution AA is almost not needed - I used to use at least 8xAA on my 1920x1200 monitor, but on this one I cannot tell a difference between 2x and 4x so just run 2x. You are correct, my 27" 2560x1440 monitor was one of my favorite computer purchases ever. I could never go back to a standard size/resolution monitor! IVIYTH0S Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 If you upgrade I'd get a 7900 card, or perhaps attempt 6870CF if you want to or can.
Muchoman1 Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 7950 would be your best bet Loving my 30" 2560x1600, so much room
El_Capitan Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 I'm tempted to test out my good overclocking HD 7850 and see how it fairs on 2560 x 1600 gaming.
Waco Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 I'm tempted to test out my good overclocking HD 7850 and see how it fairs on 2560 x 1600 gaming. Wild guess - it'll be roughly 50% slower than it is at 1920x1080.
MJCRO Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 I'd honestly go for a 4GB GTX 670 if it were me.
Shurman292 Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 Personally I would buy the 4gb 670, however some of the other options listed above are good as well.
