  1. Could I try getting a SATA PCI card and see if that makes it work? I really don't think its the PSU, it's been working fine and it is a modular one and I've tried multiple HD power cables in every different slot. All of my other devices are working so that doesn't seem like it is the problem.
  2. I booted up the computer this morning and I get the error: disk boot failure, insert boot CD and press enter. Something along those lines. I figure it is something with the BIOS so I go and check but my computer isn't even seeing my HD so it isn't a boot sequence problem or anything like that. I've tried multiple SATA cables and power cords, but nothing seems to work. I even tried putting in a different HD and went through the same series of things but it still won't see it. Has anyone had this problem or know what might be going on? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
  3. New Antec 550 Neo HE PSU, switched monitors... going to try switching video cards next. Dirext X and everything are up to date... I realized the machine doesn't have SP2 so I'm doing that now but I doubt that'll help.
  4. Yeah I have the right PCIe connectors.
  5. None? I don't mean to bump but I'm still having this problem and I'm nowhere closer to fixing it. I've tried reseating my ram, video card, sound card and processor and all of my cooling elements and it doesn't seem to be a temperature issue.
  6. So I just put together a new machine and its running an Intel 6600, PNY 8600 GTX, BFG 680i mobo, Antec Truepower 2.0, 2 gigs of Kingston HyperX and a SB X-Fi. Everything works fine and everything as long as I don't run any 3D programs it seems like. Its running windows XP and the latest Nvidia drivers and stuff. Whenever I load up NWN2 or CS:S or anything like that within 10 minutes the screen goes black but the sound and everything keeps running fine. Its like the video input just stops or something. The only thing I can think of that would be an issue is the mobo "strongly recommends" a 8 pin 12v or some such for additional CPU power but says you can still use a 4 pin if you have to. I don't know... any thoughts?
  7. I just recieved one as a birthday present from my dad. How is the overclocking on these? I couldn't find any information other than the reviews on newegg. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813189003
  8. *SPORE* Portal Crysis I've been waiting for Spore for a while, it looks like it is going to be a lot of fun and a breath of fresh air for the RTS genre.
  9. I actually thought about just sending you a message, or addressing the topic to you because I know you have.. "extensive" experience with teh rattlecanzz . I was thinking about just getting a professional to do it or finding a neighbor with a compressor. I'm in the same boat with you, I don't have anywhere to paint except when I'm home for the holidays or summer and what not. I bet it was an issue with the paint/clear coat combination.
  10. Well it looks like I'll be going with an eVGA board. I'm not sure if I want to pursue another W/C set up with this rig. My other PC has a nice watercooling system with a MAZE 4, Swiftech Storm, Black Ice 2, etc. that I could rip out of it. However, I was planning on going with a smaller case for the new computer, and I don't know if I'd have room to cram all of that stuff in to a smaller case that's going to be running dual GPU's. Finding a place to mount all of that was no problem in my CMStacker.. but I was thinking about going for a smaller Lian Li or something. Oh, the decisions... (EDIT: I'm also looking for a black fan controller that I can use a drive bay slot for. I really would like one with red LED's, but I haven't been able to find one. I may have to do some modding to get the red LEDs, it seems everyone likes to go with the blue or greens.)
  11. Last time I painted a case, I had mixed results. I dissassembled my CM Stacker (old, not the new kind) to paint everything black. I started off by sanding everything, then laying down a few base coats of primer. I followed it up with 3-4 layers of black followed by two clear-coats. At first everything looked pristine and wonderful. However, the stickiness of the paint never totally went away and it got tarnished really easy from things that touched it. I ended up having to strip everything and take it to a friend who actually knows what he is doing. I don't remember what kind of paint I used exactly, could that have been the problem? Did I not let it dry enough between coats? I'm buying a new case soon for my rig in progress, but I'm not sure if I want to try painting it again. It would be worth it if I knew I wouldn't end up having to re-do it like last time. Any of you guys have some advice for me?
  12. My old rig has a DFI LANparty that I've never had any problems with. I'm looking to spend around $150 for the mobo and around $300 for the video card. That being said, I'd really like to spend the extra cash and get one of the eVGA 8800's. Now that I think about it, I may just spring for one... then save up for another one later. I may also sell a few parts out of my old rig to pay for some of this one. I've never played with eVGA boards. Are they similar quality to their video cards? I really like eVGA's warranties, so that may be a good idea.
  13. So this Christmas was a good haul. In addition to some other goodies, I picked up: Kingston HyperX 2GB (2x1GB) (PC2 6400) Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz Razer Copperhead (red) Cretive SB X-Fi Fatal1ty I'm about to order the case as we speak in which I shall house this new rig. Anyone have some suggestions on a video card and mobo? I was looking at this one but I've always leaned away from Asus products in the past after a bad experience or two a couple years ago. Can anyone comment or point me in the right direction?
  14. I use a Swiftech Storm, and I've had nothing but good experiences with it. I think I saw a review somewhere that put it above the DD models in cooling power. I'll see if I can find it. *edit* DD makes quality stuff, so either way you should be good.
  15. Even better, I have a dead 800XL sitting around my garage... perfect for the occassion.
