New GPU R7770 - No Display but fans whirring

Hi wonder if you could help me?

I have the following system and needed a DX11 gpu so purchased an MSI R7770 GhZ Edition GPU 1024mb GDDR5 to replace my Radeon HD 4850 

MS-7504VP-PV (CPU 1) motherboard
Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q8200 @ 2.33GHz
Dynex 400w PSU
Windows 7

After installing the card i can hear the fans whirring but no display on the monitor- checked and reseated the GPU - still not working

Refitted the Radeon HD4850 - Computer back to normal!

A lot of posts on other forums point to the PSU needing to be minimum 500w but there are conflicting posts that state that a 400w psu is adequate.

Can anyone help please-any advice/guidance greatly appreciated.

Could be a faulty card, even considering your psu is not great, it will power the 4850 which draws 30 watts more then the 7770.

I'll put the card into my sons system which has an i5 and Corsair 600w to test

Double check the PCIe power plugs too.

Yes  i double checked and it was a straightforward 6 pin like for like.

 

Should the card be OK with the motherboard as it's a few years old now?

Did you try to update the mb bios to the latest, just read another forum where a 7850 on the same mb ran fine after a bios update.

Is BIOS update easy for a relative novice?

yeah For my motherboard you can just download the update and it installs+verifies in Windows, check out the website

I'vr tried the Fujitsu site for the bios update but cannot find one-anywhere else that i may be able to find it?

Please make sure the 4/6pins for video power connector is also connected on the mobo as well.

 

400W power supply seems a little inadequate. stated 400w most of time is only 300+w only.

For large gaming, the peak voltage comsumption may not enough.
