  1. hmm, and he said he got it at release... lol. I was thinking maybe just get a GTX 760 instead. its 250 shipped, brand new, and seems just a tad slower.. thoughts on that?
  2. I have a 1280MB MSI GTX 570 Twin FrozrII And a friend of mine is getting out of pc gaming and offered to sell me his Sapphire R9 280X Dual card for $310. He said he paid $500 for it, not sure what its really worth.. Is this a worthy upgrade? I7 3770 Non K (Stock Clock) 8GB DDR3 1600 2X 120GB SSD RAID0 Asrock Z77 Extreme 4 Board CoolerMaster 1000W PSU
  3. Ok, I am running the following system... ASrock Z77 Extreme4 Motherboard, I7 3770 (non k), 8GB DDR3 1600 (2X4 CL9), 1280MB GTX 570 TwinFrozrII Video Card, 2X120GB SSD In Raid0 (intel 520), Coolermaster 1000W PSU 27" Samsung LED Monitor 1080P Being that this is the NonK chip, I cant really overclock it, and the small amount that I can, isn't really worth it. I am selling off the GTX 570 and am in the process of doing research on a good Card to replace it with. I am trying to get back into the gaming scene, and with this card, its really showing its age on current titles. On FFIX ARR, I have to turn everything almost off in quality settings to run it at 1080P at 60FPS. I guess my real question is, should I keep using what I am using? OR should I maybe look into building something with the 4th gen i7 and upgrade the whole pc?? I also was thinking about going to AMD for an 8 Core, but from all the reviews and posts I have read, it doesn't seem if any if at all, an upgrade from what I am using. The parts are all about a year old since I got them, and everything works great, but should I be looking to build something newer? Any thoughts would be great. Thanks!
  4. I would like to keep the budget a little lower if possible, but what would be a good board for either of those chips? you mentioned a 990. is there a good brand preference to go with?
  5. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131873 I believe it should take the chip, but for the extra 90 dollars and extra heat im not sure if it would be worth it.
  6. I have a few parts laying around and have decided to build an 8 core amd setup for doing some video encoding. It will have 8GB DDR3 1600, a 120GB Intel SSD, 1000W CoolerMaster PSU, and a 970 Asus motherboard. Not looking to break the bank or go to intel. Been using an i7 for a while now, and want to try something different. My question is this.. Im debating betweem the 8350 or the 9370. I wont be overclocking this build at all, and wont be gaming at all on it either. I was leaning more towards just getting the 8350 considering I dont really need the watercooling or the hotter cpu in my case (9370). Which cpu would you suggest?
  7. I was hoping to use water with this build, so I hope it will fit, lol. The only thing I can see that would make the case work with water is the tube holes on it. I think the case would work, but I was hoping someone might be able to confirm for me.
  8. So, I have an ECO alc kit already and my friend has a corsair h70 that he will sell me for $45.00. He used it pretty hard 24/7 use for a while, where as the ECO kit is brand new. It will be cooling an i5 2500K build that Im hoping to get into the high 4 ghz range. Which cooler would you reccomend? I also have a 212+ with 2 fans on it as well, but I am leaning towards one of these water setups, due to some reccomendations from a previous topic I made. So that would be the first question. The second question is the case that I have is the Rosewill Armor Case. I know, there are better cases out there, but this case was next to nothing in terms of cost, and that will be the case used. Will either of these water cooling kits fit on there? It has 2 tube holes on the back by the IO shield area, and since I never water cooled before, I can only assume that the case is set up for water. Any advice on this? I tried doing some fast searches online, and its obviously not the most popular case, but will they work on it?
  9. Hello again, As always, you all lead me in the right direction with advice, and now I need more! lol. Ok, This pc will only be used for gaming. So here are the specs: I5 2500K (w/ Coolermaster Hyper 212+ And 2 75CFM Fans In Push/ Pull) Gigabyte P67a-UD4 Motherboard 8GB RipjawsX (9-9-9-24) 1333mhz (2X) MSI GTX 570 in SLI 3X G.Skill 60GB SATAII SSD In Raid 0 1TB WD Black SATA 6.0GBs (Storage) 1000W CoolerMaster PSU This will be my frist Sandy Bridge build, and Im looking to hit 4.5-4.7 out of the chip. (Crossing fingers) Now the Questions, lol #1. Since I heard ram speed isnt that big of a difference on overclocking. I had the ripjaws x left over from a different build, so I plan on re-using it. Will it bottleneck me in any way for just gaming? Should I look into getting an 8GB set of 1600 with tighter timings? #2. The cooler I had left over from my old i7 950 build, so I planned on re-using it. I also have an eco alc watercooling kit, not opened yet, was debating on using it for this build or not, but upon seeing the reviews online, it might not do that much more of a difference than good air cooling. Sooooo... Should I keep the 212+ or use the eco kit on it? #3. With the motherboard that I chose (got it for a very good deal, thats why I picked it up), I know its only capable of running 2 graphics cards, but with physx in play with a few (not many) games that I do play, will the overclocked cpu bottleneck at all with running physx? #4. I havent decided on a monitor / monitors solution yet. I know in SLI I can do 3d surround. I am dont really care about 3d currently, but I do like the surround option. What would a good setup be for this rig? I was originally thinking 3X 22" LCDs or one 27" LCD. So what do you all think? Those are the biggest questions I have so far. Thank you in advance for all your help!
  10. Im using a hyper 212+ with 2 Coolermaster fans in push/pull configuration. I can get it stable at 4ghz fairly easy and stable. but even overclocked, it didnt really do anything for the fps in the games i play. I thought it was the 6870 giving me a bottleneck. I was thinking of doing another 6870 and xfire it, but I was reading online that the 6950's that flash to 6970 with bios mod is on par with the 6990 in terms of performance, and its like 200.00 cheaper than getting a 6990. So is 6870 xfire even worth it?
  11. Hi everyone. I am thinking of doing an upgrade. I currently have a 6870 card. Looking to replace it with either dual 6950's and do the bios mod to make them 6970's or one gtx 580. I mainly play RIFT and Crysis 2. Im wanting to keep it around a $500. budget. Im currently running an i7 950 just at stock speeds, 6gb corsair ddr3 1600 and 2 60gb ssd in raid 0. Its only for gaming. I dont do anything else with it. The screen I use is a 23" LCD with a resolution of 1920X1080. With one 6870 it dips to low 40s at times, and Im trying to get a graphics solution that will keep it pegged at 60fps constantly. Any ideas? I was also considering saving 200.00 more and doing 6990. Any ideas???
  12. Ok Awesome! Thank you all. I just ordered a 1GB GTX 460 for him. Thanks for all the advice!
  13. Ok, I did a little more research and I found a Gigabyte Motherboard - M68M-S2P. Its a micro board, but like I said my son doesn't need anything too crazy. I can re-use his DDR2 1066 Memory in it, as well as get an athlon II X4 AM3 chip. Would the performance be that dramatic going to a ddr3 board if he is just using it for RIFT? And thank you for the advice on the 1GB GTX card, from what I read about it should be worth the extra couple bucks!
  14. Hi, I have been a long time browser of this site and decided to register and ask the experts opinions on this.. I pre-ordered and am getting ready for RIFT to release. I played the beta on my main pc. But, now my son wants to also play it on his pc... Now here lies the problem.. Here is the specs: Cooler Master CM690 Case Gigabyte EP45-UD3R 775 Motherboard Intel Core2Duo E6600 @ 3.3Ghz Per Core 4GB DDR2 1066 Memory 2X 74GB Raptor 10,000 RPM Hard Drives (RAID-0) 512MB Nvidia 9600GT Video Card 700Watt OCZ PSU That's the basics. I was looking on newegg for an upgrade path. I came up with an Athlon II X4 @ 3.1GHz Quad Core 4 or 8GB DDR3 1333 Ram (Just for Gaming) 768MB GTX 460 Video Card I was going to keep his hard drives. It will only be used for this game, so no need to really replace them. My question is with this upgrade what would you suggest for a worthy upgrade? If anything? The game will be playing on a 22" 1680X1050 Resolution. He had no problems playing WoW with it, but looking at RIFT, it seems a little more hardcore, lol. Please help me!
