jjjrmy Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 I haven't read any reviews of the 6990. But the 590 explosions caught my eye. And it is sorta weird that they cranked up the voltage that high. But I think some of them didn't even change the voltage and it exploded.
Bosco Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 How many do you have, and why? Currently 5 new rigs with 7 more on the way. I do a lot testing for OCC. How high have you clocked the GTX 590 btw? Haven't touched it yet. Just built a new rig last night that it was put in.

( I'll take some ) You're electricity bill is probably like outrageous. But you have good heating during the winter, just turn all computers on. He could really do a lot of folding though, if he could afford that bill.
ccokeman Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 You should have seen the bills when we were actively folding! IN the winter the heat did not cut on due to the heat from the rigs and in the summer the ac had a hard time on those 90 plus degree days

Krieg1337 Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Ya the 6990's are not fairing much better I know of 4 cards that are dead so far with 2 more having issues. One of ours died as well..... shakes head Just wondering, but why is the GTX 590s failing be publicized but not the HD 6990s dying? MandoPatriot Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 This thread turned into win with Bosco and ccokeman talking about high electricity bills. =D
El_Capitan Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Odd, my electric bill never goes past $250 (averages $220), and I fold with 4 machines as well (though nowhere near the level Bosco and WaterHazard fold at). $900 for one month! Guest_Jim_* Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 My mom wants to blame me exclusively for how electricity bill being around $230, because I do fold 24/7, but that's on one machine. I think I'll share some of these numbers with her to show that it can't be just my computer.
jjjrmy Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 I was thinking of folding, but my CPU and GPU suck at folding.
Bosco Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Just wondering, but why is the GTX 590s failing be publicized but not the HD 6990s dying? No idea really. We documented it in Neoseeker's review, no idea why other sites are not. I guess worried about not getting cards down the road I dunno.
