d3bruts1d Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 (edited) It has been brought to my attention that some members have been abusing the forum's new reputation system. The main case is where one or more users repeatedly assign a negative rep to another member's post for no valid reason, other than they do not like the person. This type of action is not appropriate for OCC and is a violation of the OCC Forum Rules. Some may even consider this act a form of "cyber bullying". Another observed instance of abusing the reputation system is where two (or more) members agree to continuously increase each other's reputation. This is also an unacceptable behavior. As stated when we announced the forum reputation system was enabled, the usage of the reputation system is being monitored. Those abusing or trying to game the system will suffer consequences, up to and including permanent ban. As a result of abuse, several members have already received multi-day suspensions and / or had their ability to assign reputation points disabled. *edit* Reputation is no longer being displayed in the user profile. Think of it more as a per-post type thing now. Edited August 2, 2010 by d3bruts1d
damian Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 DId mommy not pay enough attention to you all? A rep should be earned, for the quality of the post. If you really have helped someone out with troubleshooting, overclock problems etc then by all means. But cmon, abusing the rep system for your own personal benefit? Pretty lame....

You don't have a "Vote this post up" button (green +) next to the "vote this post down" button?

sack_patrol Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 (edited) I'm not seeing one on your posts, but I can see it on the others. You don't have post rep either. Staff members don't have Rep at all. I think you can only give reps but can't receive any. Edited July 29, 2010 by ballist1x

HarryTaco Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 I never thot much of the Rep idea in the first place. It always turns into an Epeen thing just like everything else. You get into a disagreement with someone and yes it becomes a tool for revenge. Why the Mods and Admins here decided it would be a good thing is a mystery to me. Guys want to have the highest rep in the membership and you look to see how they earned it and find nothing accept some kind of workage between friends. Just like giving some kind of Title or Value to post count. Anyone with good common sense to go along with some intelligence will look right past those kind of things anyway and zero in on quality of posts, one at a time.

By reviewing a certain member, I can tell that my negative rep is not there. I neg-repped this person three times in one thread not because of any hatred toward the member but because of another valid reason I will not get into, as that may divulge who that member was if people remember the thread. This is exactly why the system should allow one to leave comments on why they our upvoting or downvoting a post. I can fully explain my neg-repping in a PM if you want. Never really saw much of a point to it either the system doesn't really prove much if someone has a high or low rep you don't know if they were given that rating because they have a lot of friends on the site or got it from helping people out or if they got a low rep is it because they were unhelpful and rude or because someone doesn't like what they said about something in an argument. I think for a rep system to work members shouldn't be allowed to rate other members there should be some type of neutral party like mods or other group that goes around reading posts and deciding which members contributed and which ones caused problems.
