uneedav8 Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Just curious if anyone is using one of these. I have always heard good things about them. I am just trying to figure out if I should replace my TWC DVR with one.
ivangela Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 I used Tivo 20 years ago, before other DVRs even existed. It was great. I have since used Comcast's DVR and DiecTV's DVR and both pale in comparison. THe problem with Tivo now is that it's a stand-alone service and costs a lot. El_Capitan Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 ^ I had moved onto a TiVo over 2 years ago, I think. Extra service costs, but more functionality. Slower software, but more functionality. With a lot more things like Netflix, Amazon Instant, iTunes, Hulu Plus, HBO Go, and shows showing on the network websites after a few days, I feel there's less need for needing to record shows if you're just going to watch them in a couple days. However, I do like being able to record, watch a show starting 15 minutes it starts, and skipping all the commercials. However, your typical DVR can do that, so no need for a TiVo. With a TiVo, you're just getting it for all the extra features.
ir_cow Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 The problem with any DVR now is that you can't... not record the commericals. TIVO got sued for it years ago and now ever dvr must record everything rather than skip stuff.A few years ago directv and TIVO joined up and made a dvr. But just like any big company now it was garbage compared to the older ones besides the fact it now recorded hd.I suggest you just rent a dvr instead of buying it becuse when it fails and it will you get a free newer replacement. Sometimes the shows will delete themselves and PPV events "vanish" sometimes.Yeah I use to work for a call center...can't tell you which company or they can sue me

Black64 Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 I use them at work, they are great, but highly unreliable, we failure rates in the 30-50% range.
