I5 3570k @ 5ghz "stable" : Need advice/opinions

Hi! I just received my new rig a few days ago, went ahead and built it, then installed the os and all the soft and overclocked it sucessfully to 5ghz.  :woot:

The I put in an old ocz vertex 2 ssd in there with a seagate barracuda 3tb HDD I had from my old computer.

Here are my UEFI Bios settings(the ones I changed from the default, all other will be set at default settings) :

So This is my setup. I am running the Watercooling kit on the CPU only but plan to buy a GPU block to add it to the loop later on. I have tried changing the pll voltage down a bit (1.7, 1.75) but my OC gets unstable. I also tried to turn down load line calibration which on High seemed to be doing fine but had a Prime95 crash on blend mode after about 8 hours. As is, I have completed a 100 tests on Very High in IBT with success and then a 12 hour run on Prime95 blend mode without any errors. I really reached my wall at 5ghz cause at 4.9 Ghz I could have a 12 hour prime95 blend run completed without errors on 1.325 vcore, 1.8 pll, high load line calibration and everything else set as with this config with really low temps.

I used the X.M.P. option so I'm running my memory at the recommended settings : 1.5v 1600 mhz 9-9-9-24.

Right now while running Prime95 my temps are at 32 degrees for the minimum heat on my 3rd core(hottest core), and 82 Degrees maximum heat on the same core. Average temp while running prime95 blend is about 67 on the hottest core. While running very cpu intensive games (I'm mostly a gamer and movie/music listener.. I don't use it to compile or any other proffesional needs except the occasional visual studio build compilation) like Arma II : operation Arrowhead my average temps are about 45 degrees on the hottest core (3rd) @ about 45% CPU utilization.

I was wondering if you guys would do any further tweaks to the settings or if you would change anything to get more performance with less heat or anything of the sorts. I would also like to know if this is suitable for a 24/7 setup. I never close my computer... well only if I leave on a trip for several days. I want to be sure this is going to be safe as an everyday OC. I also have a 2nd screen where I have RealTemp and CoreTemp set up to monitor my temperatures so I will always be able to see (thinking of installing rainmeter up again with the meters so I don't have to open the softwares every time I reboot).

*Once I completed my 12 hour stress tests I forgot to take a screen shot and closed Prime95, same thing with IBT.. so I started it again now on my 6th hour... will re-post fresh pics of it when it's done and successful.*  Also using firefox while running the tests .. watching vids on youtube :wallbash:

So yeah like I said, any tweaks you guys would make? Any changes to my settings would be more optimal? Is this a safe OC for 24/7 oriented towards gaming and media playback? Are these good results ? Please, I'd appreciate any feedback at all  :thx:

i find 80c range pretty hot especially for watercooling, then again its at 5ghz with alot of voltages through them.

 

 

i dont think it would be wise to use it 24/7 with those temps especially if summer is comming up (dont know where you live but most of the time that is when people are downclocking to prefent overheating)

but for the most part it looks alright, try to stress it with occt tho, that can stress your cpu and gpu, and its a solid stressprogram.

I live In Quebec Canada, so in the summer it doesn't get all that hot, also I'm in a basement so even with extreme summer heat waves the room stays pretty cool.

 

Now that being said, I get 80 degrees while running a stress test. During gaming (which is the most intensive stuff I do) I get around 45-55. At idle its in the 25-30 ranges, so with all of that taken into consideration, am I good as a 24/7 build?

 

I have read elsewhere that temps of 85-95 are perfectly normal and fine during stress tests and that the chip shouldn't have any problems with it. It is rated at 105 Tj,Max so Im constantly more than 20 degrees below that even during the most intensive parts of a stress test.

 

I might try and make a 4.8 Ghz profile for the summer time (was able to hit 4.8 stable at 1.30v) which had my max temp during prime95 at 68 If I remember correctly. Ill also check out Occt, but is it really necessary considering I did a Prime95 test and IBT?

prime 95 is for some reason easy on the cores in terms of stressing, occt makes my cpu hotter then prime does so thats why i reccommend it.

 

[email protected] is a way better choice then 5ghz @1.37, that 200mhz wont be that much of a difference in real world perfomances and the 10c shaved off will be a life saver for your cpu,

the cooler it runs the longer it lives, and you want that sucker to live as long as possible right :P

 

i'd say 4.8ghz on those settings is good for 24/7, so you are basically ready to go :)

Alright thanks for the advice, as soon as I'm done on this 12 hours prime95 blend test and the IBT 100tests Ill try occt, save my profile in the bios and start working my way back to 4.8

Compressed the pictures and also put up a recent prime95/temps desktop picture.

I also upped up my radiator's push-pull fans (they were near the minimum) and got a 3-4 degree drop on all cores (this was done after the pic was taken)

Want to try this on my 3570k sub build.  So your saying to use his setting just change 1.37 to 1.3v on the Vcore? How long is this CPU estimated to last at 1.3v at 24/7 so long as temps are within reason? 2-3 years atleast? My room never goes above 75F

 

Right now im at 4.6 @1.24 70c max. Basically I just used my 3770k main rig settings since both chips are similar and Im running both on same mobo (siggy at bottom)
