jackbrennan2008 Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Yes, I set it to 1.8125V. I would normally put it to 1.8v, but I read a review suggesting to put it at 1.8125v for the ASUS P8P67 Deluxe. Fair enough. Well i bet your chip is capable of 5Ghz+, but seeing as your being very careful you might not get there without giving it some more voltage. But if your not game to do that, then you should be happy with your current results as they are really good. Your also taking better care of your chip than i am of mine
El_Capitan Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Well, this 2600K is going to go to my brother, so I don't want to stress it too far. If I had it on my rig - I have a much better watercooling system - I wouldn't be too worried about giving it more voltage to see if it could get to 5Ghz and at what voltage. I've been thinking of giving him my i7 950 instead, but I just don't know.

Yeah, but less memory capacity and PCIE2.0 bandwidth. I'm just going to upgrade to the LGA 2011 and sell my i7 950 for cheap to someone at OCC. The efficiency is the most amazing part, though. It draws 71W - 176W less from idle to load than the i7 950 at 4.37GHz (2600K at 4.5GHz)!
WarWeeny Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 (edited) damn and here i though 4ghz quads were awsome and i never dreamed fo 5 ghz quads withing a year of the release of the i5 cpu's O.o but truth be told... isnt 5 ghz like.. having a big ''over doing it'' factor? i dont you see much resultsd in games.... i think Edited January 18, 2011 by WarWeeny
Fight Game Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 it seems like 3.6-4ghz quads have been around a long long time. It's about time 5ghz+ becomes the norm imo.

usaweapon777 Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 I'm up to just about 4.7 so far on air. I have voltage at 1.42 on the chip but the temps have yet to go over 60 C.
El_Capitan Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 I've got it at 4.6GHz at 1.366v at 66C during max load. You should stress test it to know your limitations in case you ever do utilize all your cores at 100% for any length of time. Prime95 is a good synthetic benchmark that subjects temperatures to what's similar to when I'm folding, so I use that. At around 1.42v, you should be able to get to 4.8GHz from what I've been reading (see very first link in OP), the settings account for a lot in terms of stability. I'll be fiddling with my overclocks some more this weekend.
usaweapon777 Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 (edited) no thats what hardware monitor is saying after running prime for a bit. Yea im gonna go for more through messing with some options besides more voltage lol. These things are fast lol my geekbench scores are double my old rig Edited January 21, 2011 by usaweapon777

I can't really afford the $430 I'll be spending on the tri-upgrade (CPU, Motherboard, RAM). Asrock P67 Extreme4 A Data 1600MHz 2x2GB 2500K Ideally, I'd go to MicroCenter, where the 2500K is $179.99+tax, but the closest one is about a 5-6 hour drive. I'll just have to pay the extra $
El_Capitan Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 What cooling do you use? I get to 66C at my settings after 20 - 25 minutes of Prime95 blend tests. Of course, my cooling could probably be better if I upped my pump's RPM's and my fan's as well.
