building a new pc with windows 8.1 (student version help)

After searching around the net and not finding many answers, I'm wondering if someone who has been through the process of getting a student version of windows can help me.  I'm building a computer for my brother, who is a student, so he can get it a little cheaper.  The only available option I can see is to download it, not get a physical copy of it.  So my questions are:

 

1.  Is the download going to be an .iso image that I can burn to dvd and that he can use in the future to re-install or repair, etc?  Or is it just an executable file to basically upgrade the computer that you are placing the order from?  Or what?

 

2.  Will it, or when does it, give me the option to choose 32 bit or 64?  I've read that it has to be the same number of bits that computer downloading it has...but that just doesn't seem fair, or right.

 

3.  Will there be issues when I purchase it using my name and credit card, versus his name and student ID?

 

Any additional tips are welcomed.

1. It should be an .ISO that is downloaded to you, and then you can either burn it to a DVD or set up a flash drive for the install process. It then will function like your repair disc, if needed.

 

2. The 32-bit and 64-bit versions should be included with the order, then you simply decide which one to download. How my school does it, and it's how I imagine Microsoft sets it up.

 

3. There may be, or at the very least the order will need to be done on his account. If Secure Download Manager is used to handle the downloads, download that, run the .SDX file for the order, and then you can get the ISO burned to be ready for his new PC.

^ Yeah pretty much what he said. It can vary a bit by school if buying direct from them, but overall the only time I've had issues is occasionally getting the student discount proff for K-12 students, though it can be done.
