  1. So my pc won't shut down all the way. When I press the shut down button, the "force shutdown" screen appears after a few seconds and then it looks as though it's about the shutdown but doesn't. The fans slow down and then when you think the power lights going to turn off, it doesn't. The pc just boots back up as though I pressed the restart button. I usually have to hold the power button for it to fully shut down. I built this rig beginning of January this year. It packs a 4770k OCed to 4.2Ghz, Asus Maximus VI Impact with most current bios, Samsung Pro 840, Win7, G.Skill 2x8gb 1600, MSI gtx 660, 550W Seasonic G Series modular power supply and Corsair h80i all crammed into a fractal design node 304. The improper shut down has been occurring ever since I built it. I also used this installation guide for Win7 - http://www.overclock.net/t/1156654/seans-windows-7-install-optimization-guide-for-ssds-hdds I wouldn't mind posting a video to show the shut down process if you're interested, but it's how I described it. Everything winds down, but then after a couple seconds, winds back up like it's restarting. It's annoying having to hold down the power button every time I want to shut it down. Any thoughts on what might be occurring here?
  2. These are the temps after several hours of Prime95 in blend mode. I also have the speedfan app open to show the difference between the HWMonitor. Please let me know if these temps are sufficient enough or if they should be little lower since I'm using an H80i with one fan in push config. Thank you!
  3. From the looks of things, it's under no load at all. I'll leave prime on tomorrow and do another screen print so you can see the difference. I'll also take a pic of the case without the cover so you can see the inside.
  4. The attached thumbnail is my base settings for my rig. My case is a Fractal Design Node 304 and inside I have a 4770k, Asus Maximus VI Impact, Corsair H80i with one single noctua NH-U12P in push configuration, I've also replaced the 2 92mm fans with 2 noctua NH-U9B fans, and have a gtx 660. My current bios settings is for the least amount of power consumption and less vcore for cpu. Looking at the current readings, I don't think they're that impressive. Before overclocking the cpu, I want to bring the temps down as much as possible, but keeping the same core speed. From the small form factor of my rig, there's not that much I can do about air flow - 2 fans bring air in, and 1 fan pushes it through the radiator and out the other end. I also don't want to spend anymore money than I already have. The fans were on sale so I got them, but I don't think adding another noctua fan for the push/pull config would drastically reduce the temps. Please advice on what I can do to help bring down the core temps. FYI, my rig is sitting on the top of my desk and right now it's about 69f in the room. Thanks!
  5. I'm running dual monitors off an MSI-R4350. Latest version of bios is already installed. I'll also swap out the memory for another pair when I get the chance.
  6. Do you mean Windows only shows 3.98gb installed? If so you need to go into msconfig, click on the boot tab and then advanced options. Then make sure that Maximum memory is unchecked. Maximum memory was unchecked.
  7. I under stand this part. I think I worded my question incorrectly. When I right click on "my computer" and go to properties, under "System" is says: Installed memory (RAM): 8.00 GB (3.98 GB usable). Does this mean that if I want, I can use all 8 gbs or does it mean that I can max it out at 3.98gbs only? I don't run any games, just a lot of multitasking and applications open. I doubt I'd reach anything remotely close to 8gbs, but it was a good deal so I got them.
  8. I recently built 2 computers for the office and now that everything is installed and up and running, my only problem is that it shows the computer using only 3.98gb of the 8gb installed. Is there a way to fully use all 8gb's on this computer? I'm using Gigabyte GA-970A-D3P board with an Athlon II X3 455 Processor running stock at 3.30GHz. The memory is corsair vengeance 2x4gb 1600mhz. This is happening on both computers. Operating system is Win7 SP1 64bit. Let me know if anyone has any questions. Much appreciated! Side question: how would I go about unlocking the 4th core on this cpu? would it be possible with said board?
  9. You want to try some good scotch/whiskey? Try Lagavulin. It's perfect, especially if you like cigars. I'm not the heaviest of drinkers, but I can definitely drink Lagavulin for a long time. You can also go with Johnnie Walker, either Green or Gold. I personally think Blue Label is overpriced and I honestly prefer Lagavulin at half the price, but that's me. Also don't use too much ice, maybe 2 or 3 small ice cubes.... after writing this out I think I'll have myself a glass of Lagavulin. Cheers!
  10. I'm currently in the same boat as you, building the system part by part. I buy parts when I see a great deal on them. If you're going to go for a gaming rig, what I have set up is a good start: This is what I have: Case - Fractal Design Node 304 RAM - G.Skill 16GB 1866 Storage - 2tb WD Black Graphics Card - MSI GTX 660 2GB This is what I need: CPU - i7-4770k Mobo - Asus Maximus VI Impact or Asus Z87i-Deluxe Boot drive - Samsung 840 Pro 128GB SSD or any size that fits your budget. Water Cooler - Corsair H80i PSU - Fractal Design 650W this also depends what case you want. Modular might work on other cases, not the Node since the modular cords will hit the graphics card. Nevertheless, go with a Mini-Itx. Hopefully some of these parts can be found near you. For overclocking abilities, I'd stick to the ones I mentioned above. Good luck!
  11. I've built one myself, too for my employer and it's a great looking case. It's very quiet too even when using the stock fans and heatsink for the i5. I'm actually putting this build together very slowly as to not put too much expense into my pocket in one billing period. Plus, it also leads me to find great deals once they pop up. That's what I'm hoping to do with the SSD since they're expensive (if the price is right, I might grab 2 and put it in RAID 0). I'll take a look at the SS psu as well and compare the two. That's the only bad thing about this case, I'd love to go modular, but there's no way because of the graphics card. Also, those fans are pretty expensive, but since this build will/should last me a very long time, I'll consider getting a few Noctua fans. I'll like to go liquid cooled with this setup and corsair is known for having great coolers. The H80i is a step up from their other coolers and since it's a single 140mm size, it'll fit in the case. With the NAS, I have 2 of the same WD 2TB drives already. I'm thinking I should put those in the Node case and set them up as RAID 1, then purchase 4 2TB or 3TB reds for the NAS.
  12. I've got a Beretta PX4 Storm and I love it. It's a .40 cal and you can't go wrong with that kind of firepower for a handgun. 9mm doesn't pack the punch as a .40 or .45 does, and a .45 is not as accurate as a 9mm. I figure .40 cal fits in between and it's also very powerful. Guns are becoming more scarce and ammunition is worse and much more expense than a year ago, at least where I'm from (CA). Doesn't matter what you get as long as it fits nice and can stop somebody or something. Good luck out there!
  13. First and foremost, Asus is driving present/future Z87 Mini Itx builders crazy by not releasing their flagship mini itx board - Maximus VI Impact. Anyway, that should be out mid to late August, well hopefully. Here's my parts list for a mini itx build that I'm currently working on. I'd like to get some feedback on an item or 2 so that would be much appreciated. Have: Case - Fractal Design Node 304 RAM - G.Skill 16GB 1866 Storage - 2tb WD Black Graphics Card - MSI GTX 660 2GB Need: CPU - i7-4770k Mobo - Asus Maximus VI Impact Boot drive - Samsung 840 Pro 128GB SSD. Should I keep this or try something else? Water Cooler - Corsair H80i PSU - ??? I'm thinking Fractal Design 650W. It's small enough to fit behind the graphics card, but I'm not too reliant on their PSU. I'd like to go corsair. Any thoughts? Also, I have a ton of media that I'd like to centralize into one NAS. I'm thinking of getting the Synology DS413j and installing 4 2tb drives. I have 2 2tb WD black already and would like to get 2 2tb WD REDs. Would that work or do all drives need to be the same? It would be going into RAID 5.
  14. Hi All, Been trying to fix my office computer for a couple days now with no luck. I've tried almost everything to get it up and running, but no luck. It's a problem with the initial boot of windows. Here's what I have tried: Repair windows xp through OS disc Chkdsk /r from booting OS disc Ren Kernel32.dll kernel32dl_ from booting OS disc Fixed the initial "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: System32\Drivers\ntfs.sys" message that started it all After repairing windows, the windows loading screen does appear but only for a couple seconds, it's like it's playing with my emotions. I sit there hoping it would load, but it would just reboot and start the process all over again. Before you suggest it's a hardware issue, I can assure you it is not. I replaced the ram with the same one from a working desktop. All the other components are fine. I have backed up as much as I could by copying all files and folders onto a working computer. I can access the hard-drive when connected to another computer. Any thoughts on what else I can try?
  15. There is a spot for a VGA connection, but that doesn't seem to be working either. I actually got the TV to work, but the resolution was horrible and wouldn't change to 1080i like it was before I disconnected it. Edit: I'm using a DVI-VGA adapter to connect the PC and TV together through VGA. Got it to work finally using VGA. Just had to restart the computer... thanks for the help!
