  1. tried in a different PCIe slot. no change. Any advice? The bloody GPU is less than 3 months old! I can use it as a generic VGA adapter but thats pretty crappy for a expensive piece of kit!
  2. yeah i tried that, didnt take, just got some errors. So now I have a fresh win7 install. Even Wifi is working now Buuuuuuuuuuuuut... now the nvidia drivers aren't recognising my 970 and so wont install!!!!!!!!
  3. but that is all. Unless anyone has any ideas I guess I am gonna have to reinstall windows...
  4. Right so by removing stuff bit by bit I have managed to post now, and get into the Bios etc. But windows doesnt load. Originally it gets past the bios-ey bit and then a dash just flashes, eventually it says 'reboot and select proper boot device//or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key' I have checked in the bios that my SSD with Win7 on is the primary boot device - no change, then removed all other HDDs and still no change. I have made a windows recovery USB with my laptop and will see I can get into that...
  5. cool, thanks guys, i will fiddle with all this more on the weekend and see if something happens.
  6. So my lovely Rig of 3-4 years has all of a sudden decided to start playing up... Initially the wifi card stopped working - in device manager the card was there but with the little yellow exclamation mark and said there was no driver, however I decided to leave that to another day as i didn't really need internet on that PC at the time. New problem happened today. Was gaming in the morning all fine, shut everything down for lunch/ a break but when I started up the PC again the screen said no input. Checked the cables and the screen with a PS3 - all fine. Opened up the case and saw the mobo was stuck on code 78. The Mobo is an asrock P55 extreme so managed to track this down- http://www.evga.com/support/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=58950- which suggested it was a USB problem. I have unplugged everything except power and HDMI from a 970 and left it for a good 20 mins to clear CMOS etc. but this has changed nothing then i tried removing the usb header, managed to get to code 2A which here suggests is due to a faulty raid card (http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/259610-30-asus-power-post-video-post-code-solved) removed that and now i am back at 78! at my wits end!
  7. corsair GS600 - should be plenty of oomph non? Although I am running something like 6 HDDs and an SSD off that. Again haven't had any power problems before. the 970 and 6950 have similar draws i thought.
  8. Cheers guys, Just realised said bro is in hong kong for a week currently so he's gonna go on a little shopping trip for me! yeah the RAM is pretty generic adata 1600 9-9-9-24 so i reckon it shouldn't be too hard finding something that will match it.
  9. So I have had my PC for around 4-5 years now and I am planning on upgrading it. Its getting too painful to have to lower settings as much as I have to these days for certain games! as it stands my specs are essentially: core i5 760 (Overclocked to hit 3.2Ghz under load) AsRock P55 extreme 4gb RAM XFX Nvidia GeForce GT 240 (buggy and artifacting from hybrid PhysX) The reason I have some old buggy GPU in is that I have given my unlocked 6950 to my brother. The original plan was just to buy a 970 (hadn't really decided which) and then that was all, however it then dawned on me that my old CPU might be a bottleneck, in which case I am gonna end up having to get a new mobo and CPU. Do I need to do that? Will the old CPU be an issue? As far as I can tell its still going strong! I am also gonna try and find some matching RAM to add some more, but that is gonna end up being a whole different game I reckon... I really don't want to end up binning perfectly good components but realistically if I cannot play Witcher 3 on almost the highest settings I am gonna have to! Thanks
  10. Not able to to: I select disk 1 by typing select disk 1 it says disk 1 is now the selected disk then i type clean and get back there is no disk selected. please select a disk and try again all whilst this is going on I get the unmount/mount beeps from explorer. Am I putting in the correct commands? Cheers for the feedback.
  11. Right... In diskpart it lists it present under list disks and I can find it in list volume as: type:removable size: 0B status:unusable I can select the volume and get volume 5 is the selected volume Then when I try to format it says A volume must be selected. My command line knowledge is zilch so format help etc is all i have been going on so far. Could someone help me with what i need to write in order to create a volume or partition? Thanks again.
  12. its a PNY model, some european brand i think. It shows up under lsusb and the light on it flashes and indicates its doing something. I'll ty diskpart next when I am home. Cheers for all the input boys. Spoo
  13. I was moving saves from one xbox to another on a normal USB which had be formatted via the xboxes. I shut down the xbox it was in, removed the stick and then later that day tried it with my Win7 lappy. It didn't have the usual hidden xbox folder but some folders with weird corrupted symbols as names, thought nothing of it, assumed I'd just reformat it later when I next needed it. Now I need it and the weird thing is this: When plugged in it really quickly mounts and unmounts, like 1 sec bursts of each, it doesn't mount or even show under fdisk in ubuntu. thoughts? Cheers Spoo
