repup Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 HI folks, been a while (2008) since I built my current pc with your input. (Overclockers guildence was invaluable, and much appreciated.) I think I need to start considering some options but want to start with the basics. I will be building with a budget of approximatly 2k and need to shave money where I can because I want to get close to cutting edge with the vid card and processor. I am looking at ASUS MAXIMUS VII HERO, I74790K and G-SKILL TRIDENT X 16g Briefly, I looked at memory and downgraded from what the motherboard could handle because this was the biggest price drop. It also is far faster than what i have currently. I dont think it should be a problem. For the motherboard, I like the higher quality onboard sound and it has more than enough features to handle overclocking if I am ever inclined. The ASUS MAXIMUS VII FORMULA is nice but i dont think i need to spend that much more for a sound boost and wifi I probably wont use. The processor probably wont have to be overclocked for a long time, but since it was the bottleneck on my last build i figured I would go high end this time. I will switch to the build forum if I shouldnt have asked about new builds in this one. My current system is still viable so there is no rush. I have ASUS P5Q delux with a E8600 3.33 dual core that I never bothered to oc The only additions/replacements I have made since build is the vid card and added ram Thank you, pup
IVIYTH0S Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 I'd say you could cut down to a more modestly price motherboard and slightly tuned down CPU so you have more budget for a better video card which'd be far more useful in gaming. repup Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 I guess I got moved, sorry to post in the wrong forum. I will probably keep my current pc as is, as a backup or second computer for visitors. This is the list I am starting with. NZTX H630 ASUS MAXIMUS VII HERO I7 4790K G-SKILL TRIDENT X 16G ASUS DIRECTCU II OC R9290 SAMSUNG 840 EVO 750GB WD 2002FAEX 2TB CORSAIR HX1050 80PLUS GOLD COOLERMASTER HYPER212 COOLER BLUE RAY PLAYER Currently I am using a ASUS VE276Q but may upgrade to higher resolution I plan on using this for gaming. Some mmos but Arma 3 for sure, it's overkill for the specs, but Arma 1 and 2 were hell on systems with required specs. My current pc is ANTEC 1200 ASUS P5Q E8600 CORE 2 DUO WD6400AAKS 640 x2 in raid0 CORSAIR DOMINATOR 4GB x2 PC POWER COOLING SILENCER Mk II 950 ASUS EAH6950 w disabled shaders. Replaced a defective 4870 x2 that probably was doa but i nursed along till temps got so bad I had to rma it. Its a great card. As it stands the new system is around 2200 without tax. I know can probably cut back on the powersupply and maybe some other stuff but if this is a balanced system i can swing the extra. I'll just put off getting a new monitor for a while. I'd like this to last 6-8 years. I appreciate any input. Thanks
bp9801 Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 Do you have a use for the 4790K? If not, you could bump on down to the 4690K to save some cash, then swap the ASUS M7H for the ASUS Z97-A. Saves you about $150 that could be spent elsewhere, like a stronger cooler if you're planning on overclocking a lot. For a monitor, you're going to need to move up to 2560x1440 for a resolution increase, which means ~$300 at least. You may be able to do that now with some more swapped parts, but up to you. Waco Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 I think I'd go with a GTX 970 given how fast/efficient they are.
ccokeman Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 The Maximus Hero and 4790 will give you a decent build along with the R9 290.
Boinker Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 boinker here. I removed this from system builds to processor motherboard and memory. Im going to put it back as a salute to the last guys.
