P.TRIV Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 It's been awhile since I built this rig, with this forums help, it has been the best I have ever owned. It is still going strong but I got the bug, I hope to cure with a few parts Here is one I saw online and I think it will allow me to use a ssd on my board and get the 6.0Gbps.. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816124045&cm_re=syba_Controller_Card-_-16-124-045-_-Product Any thoughts or ideas please send my way
El_Capitan Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 (edited) That's probably your best and cheapest bet if you just want one fast SATA III SSD for transfer speeds. Two other options: 1. If you wanted super fast, and price isn't an option, then I'd get two Samsung XP941 m.2 SSD's and a RAID adapter for fun. 2. If you want the fast transfer speeds, then just get two cheap SSD's and put them in RAID 0. It'll be faster than any single fastest SATA III SSD. Also, your item has a promo code: EMCANNA58 Edited February 20, 2015 by El_Capitan
P.TRIV Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 Thanks Capt The Samsung XP941 m.2 SSD would be Very nice. It's been awhile since I've looked at this stuff and thing are changing, some nice Cases, cooling systems ......I better order those cheap parts quick before I take the wrong fork in the road that my wife would not be fond of. I'm still digging - USB III on the things as well....oh crap. Thanks on the heads up promo code
P.TRIV Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 Maybe it's this card I need http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815124130&cm_re=Controller_Card_Model_SD-PEX50055-_-15-124-130-_-Product to get the PCI Express x4 the former was an Pci Express 2.0.....would it matter? This one has the USB III on it as well. Seems I'm back to asking nubie questions.
El_Capitan Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 PCIE x4 means the amount of PCIE lanes. PCIE 2.0 is the version of PCIE, which is twice the speed of the previous version. A single PCIE 1.0 lane handles up to 2.5 gigatransfers per second (GT/s), and a single PCIE 2.0 lane handles up to 5 GT/s, PCIE 3.0 10GT/s, and so on. So, a PCIE 2.0 x4 will handle up to 20 GT/s. Now, there are 8 bits to a single byte, so 20,000,000,000 / 8 = 2,500,000,000, or 2.5TB/s potential speeds. That's theoretical speeds, though. The actual bandwidth to overhead is a loss of about 20%. So, realistic potential transfer speeds will probably max out at around 2TB/s.
P.TRIV Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 So Capt as far as the interface either would work? Of course the x4 for the speed but just courious. thanks again for the responce.
El_Capitan Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 Either one will work. The second one you linked to just has USB 3.0 availability as well.
