  1. Don't think I can RMA it. I bought it like 2 years ago... I doubt Newegg nor DFI's warranty is that long.
  2. Playing some BC2 Vietnam. BC2 had been getting crashy lately (no idea if that was just BC2 or my computer breaking). BAM, computer shuts off, and I smell burning silicon! I figure it's my video card, as I was running a game, so I take it out (after disconnect all but one of my HDDs [forgot about it]) and try to start my computer again. A little bit of smoke, but I missed the error code on my mobo (it flashed for like half of a second before my computer cut power again). This time I grab my camera and put it in video mode so I can review the error code... and the mobo catches on fire, right by the 8pin power connector. It's out in under a second, but I still inhaled dangerous fumes and all that. No idea if my dying motherboard took out my graphics card, RAM, HDDs, CPU, etc. I'm going to guess that the best case scenario is only the mobo is dead, second best is mobo and CPU, third is mobo + CPU + RAM, fourth adds the graphics card, fifth is everything. How likely is it that it took out more than just itself? It's a DFI x58-t3eh8. Also I just realized that it probably burnt the 8-pin connector, which means I probably need a new PSU because the 24- and 8-pin connectors are the only two that aren't modular. If anything more than the motherboard is gone I think I might just get a top-o-the-line MBP, which is a terrible thing to do now because the Sandy Bridge ones will probably be out in like 3 months. I need a computer in the mean time, though. Any suggestions, guys? I'm thinking I'll try replacing it with a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5 or -UD3R.
  3. It's in HFS+, I'm trying to Hackintosh, but I think it might be screwed up (or the drive itself).
  4. If parallax (glasses-free) tech is high-quality and cheap, maybe. But as it stands it is a stupid, crappy gimmick that simply distracts from the overall quality of a game/movie/whatever.
  5. My problem is that once the USB stick is inserted, the boot process hangs and I have to restart. If it is plugged in before I start the computer, the boot process will hang at the first screen (the graphic that says "press TAB to show the POST screen, DEL to edit BIOS options, etc.).
  6. Oh wow, I remember when you started this thing...unreal. I can't believe it's been that long.
  7. Awwww, that dog looks like it knows what it has done! lol Off-topic, but hardnrg, did you ever finish that monster build you were working on for years? It was like this massive full-tower Cheming case and you painted it, put your avatar on it, put watercooling, etc. I remember it now...but you were working on it before there were even i7 CPU's!
  8. I'm trying to boot off of this USB flash drive that I have. It should work, but I don't have another computer to test this on so I'm not 100% sure if this is a fault of my motherboard or the drive simply not being bootable. Anyway, if the drive is plugged into any USB port at any point before the OS starts (post screen, bios crap, Intel AHCI crap, etc.) it will simply freeze/hang and have to be restarted (without the USB drive plugged in). Assuming that it isn't the fault of the USB drive (I should know for sure pretty soon...), any ideas as to what my problem could be? It just doesn't make much sense...it won't even give me the option to choose to boot off of the drive (like it does if there is a CD or whatever inserted). Though my boot order is removable media > CD/DVD > HDD...but it still prompts me if there is a disk in the drive. So, I'm at a loss. Motherboard: DFI LP UT X58-T3eH8 BIOS version: Unknown, at least a year old (bought the board 3/25/09), probably older...and I have no way to update it because the USB drive I'm trying to boot off of is the only one I have. Thanks for any and all help or thoughts.
  9. I have had Win7 and xubuntu installed for a while now, but like an idiot I forgot to enable AHCI in my bios options. I have a DFI Lanpart UT X58-T3eH8. I figured that I could just get the AHCI drivers off of DFi's website, and slap in my Win7 dvd then enter repair mode and screw around in there. Well, no luck. No matter which driver I choose, only one installs correctly but then the Win7 install DVD still won't recognize my install. I'm using the GNU GRUB bootloader, if it makes any difference. TL;DR: How do I get an already installed copy of Windows 7 Ultimate to play nice with AHCI? Thanks!
  10. I'm not going to do that. I know it may sound really stupid, but I just will not upgrade my mobo and CPU again after so short a time. Would it not make much more sense to just sell my 920 when 32nm chips come out (and if I want to upgrade)? I don't see them requiring new mobos... Also, coolers. My current one is slightly messed up, and I always need an excuse to spend more money. Noctua NH-U12P or a Thermalright?
  11. No, and sorry if my language was a bit awkward. I just mean that I've been wanting i7 for a long, long time. Here is my newegg wishlist, I guess: http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWi...Number=11243826
  12. Understandable. And I'd agree, but the X58 and i7 combo is just way, way too tasty to pass up. I'm somewhat annoyed that they've forced us into DDR3, but, whatever.
  13. Can anyone else please chime in? I need to buy this by tomorrow, I really need a powerful PC back up and running. What mobo, processor, and RAM would you get for around $800? Anyone? Thanks in advance...
  14. Oh, ok then. I read it on a site from November 2008. So, 920 paired with what for around $800? I'm at a loss, I don't know what's good.
