  1. Yeah New England, NY etc. All the cool shows seem to be out in Navada or Cali
  2. Seeing as this is a good forum for modding and the topic is modding competions, does anyone know of modding competitions or shows in the US specifically in the Northeast United States? I have heard of them in Europe and Asia but have never heard of one here in the states.
  3. Good news Because you bought a copy of windows XP this should be straight forward. Put the CD in and boot the computer, Make sure the BIOS is set to allow the cd-rom as first boot. When the computer boots from the CD-ROm windows XP will start it's installation process. It will detect for existing OSinstalls, simply press escape to perform a fresh install. Make sure you delete the existing partitions and install XP on a new partition. You can do this in the setup no reboot is necessary. Follow the instructions and there you go. It is possible that the wrong driver is loaded and thus your screen is not the proper size. Windows XP will load the necessary drivers to complete the installation however you may have to check and see if all drivers loaded properly. You can find it by rightclicking my computer and click manage. In the left pane click device manager and anything with a yellow exclaimation point means the driver is not installed. Have no fear as once you can get yourself online you can go to dell support site to download the necessary drivers. Don't forget to update Windows Good luck, post if you need more help
  4. How about video on demand, got dvd's, rip'em to the HD, setup a webpage with links so that anyone on your network can watch movies. add that ssecond card and setup band-width sharing, you can spread the network load over all network cards (though they have to be the same manufacturer) nice setup by the way
  5. Most manufacturer rebuild cd's check to see if the system you are installiing them on is one of theirs (i.e. dell, compaq, hp) While you own a license for windows XP you only own one license and that is being used on the HP. Legally you cannot load that software to another computer. Good luck
  6. OK guys, straight from a Windows system administrator (Me) On the windows server make sure you have terminal services installed. Microsoft allows you 2 connections for administrative tasks. This feature is installed by default on Windows 2003 Server. Once you have done that the next task is to get a copy of terminal services client which you can donload from microsofts website and install it on the computer you want to control the server from. Once you have done that and launch the program simply type in the name of the server. Some times you may have to use an IP address as the server to connect to. Once you open a session simply type in the administrator acount information and you are in You can do everything from this console just as if you were sitting at the machine. AC, Backups even reboot the server (you will lose connection). Good luck let meknow if you have any questions
  7. Before we brave the treacherous waters of Active Directory, the login section of a user properties is designed to run scripts that are stored in the sysvol\scripts directory. To be honest, I have never tried to run a vbscript from here before, I only create .bat files to execute for various purposes. The sysvol directory is available to all authenticated users of a network. It is here that any script you want run should be stored. If you installed server as default the path would be c:\winnt\sysvol make sure the script is in there and have the user log in again to make sure it runs. A good idea would be to learn about Active Directory as it is the core of Windows 2000 and 2003 Networks. Let me know how it works
  8. have you implemented Active Directory? If you havn't I would suggest it. If you have, check in the group policy you are using to run the script. There are settings you have to turn on depending on the type of script you run.
  9. yes there is granted it is lengthy and I have to admit a pain in the butt. as said google is a great place to start. I would also suggest www.microsoft.com/technet, Micro$oft's major support area. You can find just about anything there.
  10. SP2 is quirky at best. A good rule of thumb with microsoft operationg systems is to install service patches in order. This was very important back in the NT4.0 days and I have had not one issue following this line of thinking. Load sp1a first then load sp2. Good luck
