  1. I built one a couple of months ago and would have loved to try AMD 8150 but ended up getting such a deal on a i5-2500K / ASRock from Micro Center that I couldn't justify using AMD. I've used 3 ASRock in the last year and must say they were excellent. The combo deal was not an Extreme model and even that one was great. Definite yes to SSD. I have 3 in different systems. OCZ is the slowest, Plextor is much faster and Samsung is outstanding. That said, even the OCZ Agility 2 is a pleasure to use. I have both Antec 900 and 300 and for the money (think it paid 30 something shipped but never saw that low again), I like my 300 better. It is basically a 900 with less dressing. Cleaning that top fan on the 900 is a pain. Just a thought. They are practically giving away the Hyper 212 at times. It can at least give you some OC headroom while deciding if you need more. No clue on graphics ... I'm a bottom feeder. Good luck, just happened to see your post and offered my 2 cents, and that is more than it is worth probably.
  2. Does the bios have a setting for boot drive? This would be in addition to the boot order selection. If you have two drives make sure only the boot drive is connected.
  3. When Window installs on IDE or AHCI the bios can not be simply changed later because Windows records the setting in registry, You can do some reg. changes to make it work, or change bios and then reinstall Windows.
  4. True, it is a collectors item and this was generally the eBay asking plus/minus. I have a closet full of assorted parts and need to start somewhere prior to visiting Waste Management.
  5. Apparently this is not a hot item. Any offers?
  6. Sapphire X1650 Pro AGP 512MB DDR2 $49.00 We will have to negotiate shipping. It has been awhile since I mailed so I have no clue as to cost. Amazon link appears correct I have no AGP boards any longer. Paypal
  7. I have no experience with SSD and have not had the courage (at current prices) to try one. The host of bad experience posts keep me from the adventure. The closer they get to $1 per GB the more adventurous I feel.

It unlocked and was stable MHz 3902. Unlock is a risk but still at only dual it is a good cheap rig.
  9. I don't recall needing an invite, nor do I see any invite link on my Google Music. Neither do I recall how I acquired GM. Not much help but looking for invite may be the wrong road.
  10. I last used a Noctua NH-D14, which is a little different than the one you are looking at. The quality was the best I have ever seen in a heatsink. Even the packaging was amazing. Fans were very quiet. All was easy to install. It was humongous and I am accustomed to big coolers. Noctua costs a little more but may be worth it for quality and quiet. I've never used a Hyper. Either would do the job but I would buy Noctua again.
  11. Until you use the BIOS it will always be a mystery I believe. Do you know the max speed your RAM can tolerate? Drop the cpu multi and up the MHz incrementally and memtest. Chances are the RAM is your limiting factor and not the CPU but it is all guess work until adjusted and tested. Of course the CPU's memory controller could always be blamed. Hard to tell unless you have other RAM to test. Be sure to know your voltage limits on everything. Monitor temps. Deal with NB adjustments last, in my opinion. Know the default base settings so you can revert and document progress in writing. Things I do but it has been some time ago: Raise only CPU multi. and leave FSB @ 200 to not raise RAM speed. (or do ram first, either way works) Keep CPU voltage (Vcore or VID) low as possible because it may rise when stressed. Keep HT and NB as close to 2000MHz as possible. Raise NB eventually as tweak? When reach max try drop multi and raise FSB (FID) to get higher ram speed or to test max speed. Maybe try running at 1T and/or tighten clocks after max reached to tweak more out of it. Ganged vs Unganged can't remember what it means. Asynchronous allows memory divider. If you go through the steps, you will get a feeling or sense as to the capability of CPU and RAM. Yes it takes a lot of time. Last one I did was Phenom II 555 Calisto 4 cores unlocked, Prime95 8hr+ stable operation for example. RAM was the limiting factor. This was quite a good oc for an unlocked 555 I thought and rock solid. Motherboard was ASRock 870 EXTREME3 which loves to push the voltage under stress. Ripjaw ram was a tad disappointing but good enough. fsb 223 multi 17.5 MHz 3902 cpuv 1.457 nb 2676 nbv 1.3 ht 2007 ram 743/1486 ram 8-8-7-22 temp idle 35 temp stress 51/53 ambient 75
  12. The lower power of the netbooks makes for better battery life. If dragging to class for note taking, I can see this as an advantage. With prices of "real" notebooks in the dual core variety being so low I can never force myself into a netbook, but battery life is not big deal for me. I just bought a new dual core Levono 14 inch for 390 from Levono outlet and it will eat a netbook's lunch.
  13. http://www.memtest.org/ There is also a Windows version here http://hcidesign.com/memtest/ The error scan in HD Tune will give you and idea of HD problems. Don't use the "quick" option. I use HDTune before chkdsk for obvious reasons if you have used chkdsk it can be a session.
  14. I don't know how to find this, but it could be a cracked, weak or otherwise damaged trace on the motherboard itself. The heat builds up and expansion "disconnects" the trace (or whatever). It would be interesting to see if XP has the same problem. I assume it would, but I have had driver conflicts cause sudden shutdowns. Truth be told, I would have abandoned the motherboard long ago so you are a patient person. Sudden shutdowns can be a mind bender, as you are finding. I'm with Wev on the outside build.
