pie Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 Will 1920x1080 be too much for a 15" monitor?
CowKing Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 yes, but AA won't be as big of a deal since you probably couldn't even see a single pixel without a magnifying glass
supermep Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 Yeah.... I wouldn't reccomend 1920 x 1080 on such a small monitor... actually can a 15" monitor even reach that resolution?
tkrow21 Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 I would recommend getting 1080p, the workspace itself will make using a laptop that much more bearable. Trust me, 720p just doesn't cut it.

Some of the 15.4" do 1080p. So I guess they could get that on a 15" too. I haven't used 1080p on anything smaller than my 24", so I would say check your local stores and see if they got any 15" or 15.4" laptops with 1080p. ocre Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 I would recommend getting 1080p, the workspace itself will make using a laptop that much more bearable. Trust me, 720p just doesn't cut it. for a 15 inch monitor??? could u imagine how tiny the windows would be, its like twice as small. But on a good note.... 12inch X 9inch (15 / diag)=108in^2 1366X768=1,049,088 total pixels = 9714 pixels per square inch the average 24 inch 1080 somewhere around 270in^2 (over approximation!) 1920X1080=2,073,600 total pixels divided up to 7680 pixels per square inch. The 15 inch lcd has plenty more pixels per ^2 and thus a higher/finer detail then the average 24inch 1080 lcd. There is more to screens then total pixels. if you spread 1080 over a 60inch screen....well 1080 is much less detailed viewed close up the higher res you go. Many dont take into account that a small screen size with <1080 can actually have better detail through lower resolution on smaller screen. This doesnt mean the lcd will automatically appear better, depends on the brand and how cheaply its made. But all should note that the 15 inch display at the resolution above is capable of images of very fine detail. Even a better pixel per in^2 then the average 24in 1080 lcd. 1080 is nice but most ppl upgrade from older lcds and dont realize even the smaller newer lcds with less the 1080 can look stellar beyond expectations. So automatically nothing should be stated without actually checking the lcd out for your own experience. If you can get past the 1080 hype you can see very good video on lcds across all the resolutions.

As i already said the 1366X768 already as the capability of better image quality with a more fine detail over the 24"1080 lcds. It be something like 3360x1200 on a 24inch lcd, lol!!!! tid bit overkill atm.
lost Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 i also think 1080 is too little for a 15" monitor. i run my 22" monitor with 1680x1050 and i have all my browsers zoomed in to some degree.

hardnrg Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 15" widescreen @ 1920x1080 is only 147 pixels per inch... phones have had displays >300 PPI for years now, and you don't really hold them much nearer to your face than a laptop. For a laptop display (considering distance eye-to-screen), it is something I would like personally, and you essentially end up with a higher quality image: http://www.blaha.net/Main%20Visual%20Acuity.php I remember when I started running 1600x1200 resolution on my 17" CRT (~16" effective), so 125 PPI, and pretty much everyone's reaction was "everything is so small!" You can always increase the size of the OS GUI (icons, windows, fonts, cursors?, etc), although this can make app GUIs not align correctly due to larger than standard font sizes. Rather than doing that, I just learnt to work with the "smaller" GUI, as it made my desktop workspace a lot bigger, allowing better use of multiple windows, larger client area in apps, etc.
