Cespenar Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Hi all, I hope this would be the right spot to post. if not, shoot me down. In games, Diablo3, Borderlands2, Freelancer, Googling website, Yahoo news etc, and Windows as well. I have a stop in activity for approx 5 seconds lots of times. The sound continues behind the frozen video. This started about a month or two ago. No new programs. Just updates for Adobe. Has anybody have a clue what this may be? bp9801 Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 So the problem exists whenever you're at the computer, correct, and not just in games or programs? Do you notice anything in Task Manager eating up CPU resources right before the lag occurs? Virus scan, file backup, or similar items. How old is the hard drive? Any errors appear during an HD Tune run?
Cespenar Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 (edited) You have given me something to check out. I'll have to do a bit of work and get back to you. edit: I had a lot of freezes this morning with BL2 so I played Freelancer for a while this evening and got no freezeups. I presume I can have Task Manager open while I try to do some checking. 5 seconds isn't much time to see things. bishop245 Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Again how old is the drive? Have you ran a virus scanner? Have you used HD Tune to check your drives?
Waco Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 This does sound like a drive issue...
RHKCommander959 Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 I've seen this issue or similar from: drive issues, windows issues, driver issues, viruses, GPU crashes (usually takes longer than 5 seconds to recover)...
Cespenar Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Hi Waco (Booyah) One drive is not very old but one is about seven years old. WD 320 is old and the SC500 is probably 2-3years old. C: is 99.7GB D: is 198GB and E: is 465GB. (Equals 762.7GB but should be at most 820GB. A bit less if counted correctly.) Before I waffle on about this issue I have to say I played Diablo3 today for a few of hours with no problems. (I think the computer gremlin is playing with me) Last night I looked at Computer management/Event Viewer/ down to number of events. 2 things seemed odd! Steam Client Service failed to start was one, and WECSVC failed to start was another. I had no trouble playing games on Steam after checking, (which I think is odd) WECSVC according to Google can be missing or corrupt. (It is not missing but the SC Interrogater says it failed to start. I have no idea what it is supposed to do, but the computer seems to run OK for the moment. Oh, one more thing, when I first Googled this problem, the comments all seemed to end in CTD's. I only ever got one CTD in a hundred 5 second freeze ups. Interested to see what you guys think please. Thanks from Cespenar. My son and I feel that a wipe and re-install of Win7 might be in order. (But that might be overkill)
Waco Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 If the boot drive is 7 years old it's on borrowed time. You could check its SMART attributes with something like HD Tune to see what kind of health it thinks it's in.
Cespenar Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 (edited) Got a problem. OCC wont let me post a pic in .png, .jpeg, or .gif. How do I get around this? Went via ImageShack. Control+C and pasted. That worked. Is it possible to drag and drop pics to a post? Edited September 10, 2014 by Cespenar

Waco Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Him. That actually looks pretty good. Does the error scan come back clean? It'll take a few hours to run.
Cespenar Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 The error scan was 100% okay. But why does the benchmark drop away like that?
