  1. What do you mean??? I listed the 3 reasons for doing this before asking the 3 questions.
  2. Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M Manufacturer: NVIDIA Chip type: GeForce GT 650M DAC type: Integrated RAMDAC Device Type: Full Device Device Key: EDITED OUT (IDK IF THIS IS SENSITIVE DATA) Display Memory: 4033 MB Dedicated Memory: 1985 MB Shared Memory: 2048 MB Current Mode: 1920 x 1080 (32 bit) (59Hz) Monitor Name: Generic PnP Monitor Monitor Model: unknown Monitor Id: EDITED OUT Native Mode: 1920 x 1080(p) (59.934Hz) Output Type: Internal
  3. Thanks for the reply. Why specifically do you think those would better serve my purposes?
  4. Thanks for your reply. Energy use is not an issue, it's included with my rent (free). However, I don't have a lot of $$$ and all i need is a $20 wireless nic to make this thing complete. I got this spare computer for $50. I don't think I could get a cheaper system anywhere else. Would you still recommend other hardware, after considering the info I just mentioned?
  5. This part makes me question what's actually going on here. If you're having performance issues with the built in display, chances are you will with external displays also. Now if it's a case of the laptop just having an absolutely terrible panel paired with a capable system (I'm looking at you Dell 15Rs with i7s dedicated video and 1366x768 TN panels with horrid everything) then going the external monitor route may help you. If low frame rates are the issue though it's not going to get better with an external display. I don't see any specs listed anywhere so I have no clue if this would even apply to you, otherwise what Crow said <--I just wanted to use that for some reason, he's not stupid. This is what I'm trying to figure out: http://www.displaylag.com/what-is-input-lag-the-breakdown/ Also: there's nothing wrong with my laptop's display, I would just like a bigger display to game with.
  6. The display lag of the monitor I'm thinking about buying is only 9ms. I just wanted to know if hooking up the monitor to my laptop (AND TURNING OFF THE LAPTOP MONITOR) would cause even more lag than I have now. And if it does, would building/buying a whole new PC fix the problem? I would like minimal lag for gaming purposes. Does anyone know?
  7. I have an old Dell Optiplex gx280d that has one built-in ethernet adapter. I want to put a second (wireless) NIC on and then put pfSense or IPFire on it or something. I know a firewall more powerful than an average consumer router is kind of unnecessary, I'm actually building it for 3 reasons: 1. To learn, 2. for filtering advertisements/spam/distasteful sites 3. to setup an always on VPN connection (on a service similar, but superior to HideMyAss) so that I can switch from a direct connection to the internet (the wifi of my first router, courtesy of Comcast) to a connection that goes through a VPN on the wifi of my new firewall/router, without having to log out and login every time I restart my PC, or for use if need a direct connection for some reason (for gaming for example). I.e. I'll just switch my wireless network. My questions are: 1. Will the 2 networks significantly interfere with each other? 2. How can I mitigate the interference? 3. What else should I know before doing this??? Thanks!
  8. Thanks. I'm actually using a medium sized kitchen table for the "desk".
  9. Thanks but I'm not looking to start my own movie theater.
  10. What is your personal favorite? If you can't favor any of them, try to think of one at least. Basically give as much info about this subject as you can, please. Thanks!
  11. Hi! I'd like to know what size you can get to before you start having problems with a monitor, specifically not being able to see everything in your prehiphreal vision. Thanks! EDIT: I'm referring to a desk situation where I'm sitting about 2 - 4 feet away from the monitor.
  12. Thanks very much claymeow. I'll be sure to set aside some money for the xbox one and shape up, to buy it in november. In the mean time what would be the best console for exercise?
  13. Thanks for your replies all. So only one person here uses it for FPS?
  14. I mean full blown hackers, trying to get into my PC to do stupid stuff like make my DVD tray pop out or make my monitor flicker. However, I'd like to avoid cheaters as much as possible, too. I just wanted to clarify something I didn't explain fully: I now own a windows 8 laptop. When I was hacked, I had a linux machine. Sorry about any confusion. Thanks. What game? These sound like coincidence, not hacking... A game formerly known as "Nexuiz" now named "Xonotic". And it was no coincidence. I joined a game and the guy that was hosting the server took complete control of my character. Then his friend told him to make my dvd to pop out and BAM, it popped out. He did a few other things before I turned off my computer and reinstalled Linux.
