AVG finds a trojan, but can't get rid of it.

While AVG could be throwing up a false positive, I too wouldn't be satisfied with that if it keeps happening. If AVG is truly removing it, I'd actually lean toward it being a "true" positive because it sounds like whatever it is is recreating itself upon deletion, which is a clear sign of a nasty piece of malware. Like others said, the only way to properly deal with malware like that is often throw safe mode with networking disabled.

I for some reason cannot get my computer into safe mode.

You need to be pressing F8 just as the Windows logo comes up NOT your mobo logo.

When I tried to download roguekiller, it just downloaded a bunch of useless crap.

YOu always need to be careful when downloading things, always read all the pertinent information on the screen before clicking on anything.

Even on otherwise safe websites sometimes the ads trick you into downloading even more virus', trojans, malware by having big flashing DOWNLOAD button and things that trick you like that.

You need to make sure you're clicking on that websites link to the right file, not anything that just says download.

If I wait for the windows logo it's too late , in my case I have to start pressing f8 at the mb load screen.

Because of holes in AVG virrus checking I have replaced AVG with Avast on several computers - not just mine. I maintain several friends computers.

I also highly recommend Spybot (free) which I run once a week. Spybot will sometimes find worms/trojans that other viruses overlood or don't think are intrusive.

I use MSE myself, but it does fail at some detection tests.  The last report I read said that MSE was somewhere in the neighborhood of 91% accurate / effective.  So it's possible that you do have something that you don't want, and MSE is just missing it.

Alternatively, maybe it's AVG that's throwing out a false positive.  I wouldn't be satisfied until I verified via other virus/trojan/malware utilities.

See if you can download a clean copy of VipreRescue.  After you download the file, scan it with AVG or MSE before you extract the contents to your USB drive.

Sorry I ended up going to sleep after I posted.

These guys are steering you in the right direction though.

If you can get the program wevspot suggested on a USB drive it will run the virus remover software before the windows environment boots completely up and will hopefully remove it before any of the services start running.

This is ideally how you need or want to remove those nasty bugs.
