QX6700 - Batch Numbers and steppings
dimitris1 replied to dimitris1's topic in Processors, Motherboards and Memory
Yes i thought of getting a Q6600/Q6700 but still i'm finding QX6700 around 120-150 euros(150-180$) in germany and UK so i thought i'd give it a try since i wanted a cpu where i can play with both the fsb and the multi. Q6700 is rated at 95w instead of 130w for QX6700 which means the Q6700 should have more headroom in there for better temps on higher oc's but with a good cooler or water, the QX should be fine as well. And also it's a G0 stepping all the way compared to the B3 of QX6700(theoretically G0 should give better results). Maybe i'd try both -
QX6700 - Batch Numbers and steppings
dimitris1 posted a topic in Processors, Motherboards and Memory
Hello all, You'll probably be confused as to why someone is looking for info regarding a QX6700, but here is why. I have 3 pc's in use and i have found some good offers on ebay on this ridiculously (when new) overpriced processor and i want to get one and oc it on an old 975x mobo. However, it seems there was a lot of confusion over the capabilities of the cpu regarding to,not only the steppings, but mostly the batch numbers. For example: L644F039,L648F233 (F batch said not to overclock too well and also different week batches had been reported to have quite different limits ) L707A840,L624A819 (A batch said to reach 4.ghz easily - but again different week batches[L624/L707 etc] said to be quite different as well). Anyone had any experience with the QX6700 revisions that could share cause i have found several qx6700 on all different batches/steppings. Thanks alot -
Happy to report that the E8400 (bought from ebay for 64 euros) works like a charm on my "ancient" aw9d-max. Now,time to push it

There;s also this Asus board on the same pricing: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16813131673 if you'd like to consider a 3rd option as well. Slight differences are in the total ram 8gb instead of 16gb but offers a better onboard audio card with s/pdif if you are at all interested in audio

yup, not on the bios info page there but on the site i posted in the beginning( http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-ABIT/AW9D-MAX.html ) it was tested to work, at least the c0 stepping. The E0 stepping however, was not.
-
couldn;t have said it better myself, lol(which i didnt)
-
The new pc will be either i5 or i7 but i haven't really been searching for parts for the new pc yet. First, i wanted to change the cpu on this one so i could use the existing e6600 on the old pc. quite a mess i know
-
My bad...i wasnt that clear before.. I have this pc which hosts the e6600 in which i want to put the e8400 or e8500 The e6600 will go to a second rig which i am building now from several older parts. The upgrade will actually be a new built, so it will be 3 pc's in the end
-
No not really, it's in quite perfect condition, but i'm putting it on a second rig when i get either the e8400/8500.
-
Until i upgrade completely to a new rig i thought i'd tweak the current one a bit more so i'm looking to change the 5 year old running e6600 with an E8500(or an E8400). The only thing that troubles me is that E8500 has a half multi (9.5) and am not sure whether it will run ok.E8400 has a normal multi so it should run fine. This page says that the c0 stepping should be ok for both -- http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-ABIT/AW9D-MAX.html . But i wanted to ask if anyone's had this particular combination (aw9d mobo with E8500 cpu,) ?

Something is limiting you probably(that could either be an old controller, older than ICH7 that is, or a loaded up controller,or it could even be due to overclocking). if you have indeed overclocked your pc, try running HD tune pro/HD tach rw, or any other bench programm, with altered frequencies and you'll see quite a difference in the results. And to tell you the truth,121 mb/s read speed is way low.I haven't checked your drive's specs but i suppose it's not older than 6 months and should rate at around 240-260 mb/s read(theoretical). Something is wrong there...

I have same setup as xPETEZx: D2X(pci express version) with Z-5500 and Sennheiser pc-350. You dont need to unplug the speakers, you just change the source from the asus menu (headphones,2.1) and you're set(assuming you use it on digital via spdif). It's a great combo (d2/d2x,z-5500,sennheiser headset) and if you can't afford the xonar xense bundle(includes the pc-350 xense version headset) go for d2/d2x.

I figure it'd be tough, since the only possibility is if retailers have it in stock which wasn't returned. I think i'll give ebay a chance. I really want to set it up on my abit and push it @ mcw : To tell you the truth i haven't looked so thoroughly here in Greece, which i will do though...you never know

Hi all, I'm looking everywhere on e-shops around the web to find a QX6800, but no luck whatsoever. Only pieces i've found are on ebay(cheapest was 199$), but i was really looking for the possibility of getting hold of an unused one Any info on places to look? I've looked on most major shops around but no luck...

For around 140 which is ur budget, and since gaming is your main interest, i would certainly go for the sennheiser pc350. Have a look around and check their reviews
