But I've got it set up now. Now here's a few more questions I have: 1. So, to fold on all 4 cores, you say to run the SMP again. Do I open a second terminal and follow those instructions again to do this? (If it's not already obvious, I've never used Ubuntu before) 2. How do I pause and resume the Folding Client in Ubuntu? 3. Can I close the terminal and VMWare once it is folding? Now just to make sure, is this correct? It is folding, right? Also I can't seem to get it to work in a second Terminal. I tried messing with the Machine ID, but It always says: -configonly flag given, so exiting Terminated 1. You need to repeat the process and create a second virtual machine. 2. graememk Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Ok, problem #2. I'm installing Ubuntu 8.04 x64 on the VM and I get the error in the attachment below. I'm not sure what it means, "i686 CPU". I'm using a Q6600. Could running Vista x86 have anything to do with not being able to install x64 Ubuntu on my VM? you mite need hardware virtualisation enabled in your bios for it to work? Vista X64 On your desktop, right click and open "Network" Enable network discovery and file sharing (I chose not to do the public options) It will scan your local network. The Ubuntu computer name will appear, and when you open it up (with the username and password from setting it up), there will be a Folding folder. I have an additional question, just for reference. I'm using VMware Workstation (but I only have the 30 day trial period). Are the files that you create when starting / setting up the workstation sufficient for running something like the VMware player (free)? DLS2008 Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 malmsteenigod: You need to enable virtualization in the BIOS to get rid of the i686 error, that's what happened to me. Then setup a second virtual machine the same way as the first so that you can use all four cores. To stop the folding, just pause the virtual machine using VMware Server. And no, you can't close it, just minimize it. Crazy Nate: Just download VMware Server and run that. The files should work on any VMware software. Maybe I don't have enough horsepower to do this...or maybe I have to be more resourceful (just lowering the priority doesn't cut it). http://cpulimit.sourceforge.net/ That just sounds optimum for what I want to do. I'll post back when I get it running. There's no use in running SMP (~1500 PPD) if it drops my GPU2 from 4500-5000 to ~2000PPD EDIT: Here's a teaser!!
