First Build $1000 (Suggestions Wanted)

So I'll start by saying that nothing is finalized in this build. I'm looking for suggestions on my very first build. I plan on using this rig to play big games like Battlefield and Crysis. My budget for the rig is $1000. I've yet to look at peripherals but do not want to exceed $500 dollars on a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and headset. I also enjoy playing Minecraft, but I heard that it is only intensive on the RAM. I also want to overclock the CPU, GPU, and maybe the RAM to get the very best performance out of my parts. Anyway, on to the build!

  • CPU- AMD FX 8320 OR AMD FX-6300
  • CPU Cooler- Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO OR a closed loop water-cooling unit
  • Motherboard- MSI 990FXA-GD80V2
  • Memory- Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR3-1866
  • SSD- Sandisk Ultra Plus 128GB
  • HDD- Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM
  • Video Card- Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 3GB
  • Network Card- TP-Link TL-WDN4800 802.11a/b/g/n PCIE x1
  • Case- NZXT Phantom 410 ATX Mid Tower
  • Power Supply- SeaSonic 660W 80 PLUS Platinum Certified ATX12V
  • Optical Drive- Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer

Well theres the build so far. Suggestions on peripherals will also be greatly appreciated. Thank in advance for any help you decide to give me.

WHY!?!?! Why the AMD? lol.

Well for one, the AMD processors are a lot cheaper and the 8320 or 8350 can be compared to the i5-4670K. I don't know, this is my first build and I don't know tons about PC building, so are the Intel processors like way better than AMD? If they are, I will go with an Intel processor.

It's really more of a personal preference. There are a few AMD fanboys around here (CompEd chime in anytime now ) but I prefer clocking Intel chips over AMD, but both are about down the same path as far as reaching stability. I don't like the false sense of high clocks from AMD with OC's reaching 5.0 or 6.0 while still remaining slower than a stock intel chip.

Don't get me wrong, AMD has lots of potential, Intel just has the money to spend on things. There's nothing wrong with building an AMD rig -- just like asking people why they pick one route or another. However, you will almost always have a faster build with an Intel build...

Ok thanks. I do plan on OCing this rig to the max, which is why I'm getting a good stock cooler. I know that Intel chips generally have lower power consumption and they tend to run at lower temps. That would help me get it to a higher clock rate, right? Anyway, thanks for the help.

To be honest, the newest chips, such as the 4770k run a bit hot. Has to do with the way the chips are assembled -- can easily be fixed with popping the lid, but who wants to do that on a chip that price? It's hard to risk it...

So event though the power consumption is lower, it doesn't always mean lower temps (especially when OCing). You'll still be more than capable of getting a decent clock with anything more than a stock cooler - so no worries.

Please see what I mean about overvoltaged vcores and parents not using an rog board smh. Here's the thing Intel tends to run less hot and isn't as power hungry people can get 5.4 on an fx 8350 but I wouldn't try it with a closed loop cooler and I challenge anybody to find a intel chip that runs between 4.7 and 5.4 GHz stock that being said it is a matter of preference. I would say for a thousand dollars amd would be better choice just price wise. Anybody see any Intel chips make world records lately? If you want to over clock and you stay with amd a cross hair 5 formula z would be best you will get the best over clocks with an rog board (anybody wants to dispute that than your parents should have definately dialed back the voltage before your cerebrum err CPU was damaged) As for a closed loop cooler I would say cooler master eiseberg would be your best bet it handles even the hottest Intel and amd chips and matches pretty much everything out there at a good price check out the reviews the link is on the product page on cm website also if you have decent cooling heat and power aren't as big a worry but to be safe I wouldn't push the Vcore past 1.47 otherwise you risk damaging the processor overtime.

Looks like a solid build. But note there is a large price difference between a 212 EVO and a closed loop cooler. IMHO I would go with the EVO. Also I think you could find a better PSU.

Probably right at the power supply especially if your over clocking look up extreme power supply calculator on the web I use that lite version is fine. Would send link but I'm on my phone ugh
