skoville Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 Hello all, Having a problem with the computer locking up downloadind. (mostly) Installing a program and do another task seems to gring it on. Trying a video converson locks it up every time, even when cutting back on the cores. Running sfc/scannow a couple times until I tried to DL System Update Readiness Tool and it locked up. Any ideas where to start?

SpikeSoprano Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 What are your temps, if you don't know try to install hardware monitor and see what it reads, could be a heat issue.
skoville Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 I don't think so. When I start the computer it's single digits, not had it above32c. Haven't really got around to do any heavy lifting, still installing programs.
SpikeSoprano Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 Well it could be a screwed install of windows if you just installed it, you can dl memtest 86 to a flash drive to check the ram on bootup, if it's a memory problem you will get errors, but if its locking up on video conversions that points to a heat issue, memory or possibly bad driver install, do you have the latest drivers for everything and also latest bios. Did you just buy it and had these problems right from the start.
skoville Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 (edited) No, installed all fresh updates. Had to search for BIOS to get the 4.7G. Did the Performance test, no errors.I'm using Core Temp, never seen it go over 45 or so. Might as well go back and uninstall/reinstall drivers. I believe the BIOS was a Beta. FCg. SpikeSoprano Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 Sounds like a good plan, if it has a dual bios try and clear it, pull the battery or cross the 2 pins, whatever works with that board and it might reset to the factory bios. Haven't really got around to do any heavy lifting, still installing programs.AMD CPUs have had such wildly wrong temperature sensors for so long I'm surprised anyone trusts them any more. Unless you keep your room temperature near freezing your CPU wasn't in the single digits ever. It does sound like either a heat issue or a memory issue. Clearing the BIOS is a good first step. What power supply do you have?
skoville Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 (edited) Hello. Thermaltake Toughpower TPD-0750M. I just woke it up and it's 14c. Going to try the BIOS, I believe the update is a Beta. Then recheck drivers, uninstalling whats there. Thanks. Well that's a 1st. Running Xilisoft got a "AVC stopped working".
