aLeXv305 Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Does anyone know if there is an audio format that supports muli-threaded encoding, for example a program that will use all of my 4 CPU cores. I encode audio almost daily and could benefit from minimal encoding times. Thanks, Alex
hardnrg Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 if you are ripping CDs to MP3 (or any other format), you can use Exact Audio Copy and change: EAC Options > Tools > [tick] On extraction, start external compression in the background - Use <NUMBER> simultaneous external compressor threads this will launch multiple single threaded processes that run at the same time, so the number of threads is a number of pipelines essentially, the speed gain is quite linear... it's cool to be able to rip a CD and it only takes about 10 seconds longer than the CD rip itself because the encoding happens at the same time you can encode WAV files to another format using EAC, so maybe it will launch multiple threads, I'm not sure though as I've never tried it Ogg Vorbis Lancer is the only multithreaded audio codec I know of... I stopped using it though, preferring MP3 and FLAC for my CD rips (I can rip MP3 and FLAC simultaneously at the same time as reading from the CD )
