Flash Drive

I'm in the market for a USB flash drive to be used solely as a backup drive. Currently I have some gift cards from Amazon, so that's where I'll be purchasing.

Right now I have my eye on a few, but not totally sure. Most of the benchmarks I see are for files under 1GB.

All of the drives I see so far are deadly slow that are around $1/GB, but that's what I'm looking for. Something around 16GB is preferable, but like I said, all of the ones I am finding are so slow. I need to backup about 13GB of files. Asthetics aren't important, as long as they aren't lime green or purple, lol. Can you guys make some recommendations based on some drives you have? :)

For a buck a gb you are not going to get any good speed, any low end kingston drive will do, I just researched them myself as I need a faster one and the Patriot xp rage is about the best for the money of usb 2 drivesbut they sre about $20 for the 8 gb and $30 for the 16 gb. They will give you about 25 mbps write speed.

I'm even fine with 30 minutes for the 13GB transfer, I just want a good bang for the buck flash drive. I know I can get a super slow one, but I'm hoping to not get one that wrties 13GB in 5 hours, lol.

A nice feature if you actually take your flash drives with you when you go places (I keep certain installers on my keychain as I use them to install programs that help me repair computers, since family and friends always randomly ask):

Many flash drives come with an onscreen display which shows your remaining/used disk space (usually in percentage.) While they're usually complete crap as far as display quality (similar to old "handheld" games at a gas station) they can make sure to remind you that you're running out of room or might've forgotten to install a large file that obviously isn't there at certain usage percentages.

I have a couple of these OSD drives at 2/4GH sizes. Because sometimes my mother will ask me to bring her a copy of a movie for her laptop or something.. And as I'm about to leave, I check my keychain and see I've got 80% free space.. And right there I know I don't have that 1+GB movie file on there, so it reminds me to go back and copy it before I leave.

I'm a huge fan of these:

super tiny, and quite fast.

of course there are 32GB offerings for almost the same $/GB

(I have had the 8GB Picos before and now have a 16GB though)
