  1. 2 pics before we turn this aftermarket: I learned my lesson getting a reference in the past, and I had so much problems with it being overvolted out of the box, and the card throttling immediately upon any kind of load.. my recommendation to everyone is to just get ANYTHING that is not reference so you have more power delivery and better PCB board to overclock with. That being said... if your not OCing, yeah... get a reference to save yourself some time and money, because a reference won't have any kind of OCing power at all. It only took about an hour or so to have it stable at 1400 core and 2000 memory @ 1.2volts, and I get about 10,100 on 3dmark Fire strike, I am using MSI afterburner to OC with. The reason why I am posting this is because I love fanless coolers, or any aftermarket coolers but there are not many threads on them to confirm if they really fit or work really well. It is safe to install without any issues.. and I have installed this on several different cards already the Radeon 7850 (fits great), the Nvidia 960 (fits great, but uses a different set of holes compared to what EVGA has on their back plate, so stock backplate was unusable on the EVGA), and finally on my latest GPU the RX 480 non reference PCB. My questions I had when installing this, was because someone installed this on a reference and I think they had to take off the front plate, I just wanted to confirm that both backplate and the front mosfet/VRM plates all can stay, and the cooler works with it PERFECTLY!!! No modifications, and no cutting of any of these backplate or front plate is needed for it to work, and also the MSI has that famous bracket that attaches the PCI mounting with its front plate cooler, and it clears it perfect as you can see here: first I took off the stock cooler, the main reason i chose MSI over the other ones is because the very top cooler just takes the 4 screws to take off and you do not have to mess with the backplate or the front plate at all, and the main cooler itself does not touch any of the ram or the VRM's like some brands, so the MSI I choose purposely because I felt like the cooler was dedicated to just cooling the GPU only, which made it perfect for this purpose: and again just the 4 screws to remove it, and the 3 connectors for the LED lights and the fan's on the stock cooler: Ok USE the center holes, because it fits perfect with allignment of the cooler and also the GPU, I used here in the 2 pics below a small dab of regular thermal paste to give a test run to make sure it alligns up and I cleaned it up to put on some real thermal paste on it: so after i verified it perfectly alligned up using some crappy thermal paste, I cleaned it all up, and just installed it the rest of the way: Stock backplate is still being used: I am using a 140mm fan on zip tied on the cooler, because the TURBO cooler that is an add on to this card is just a 140mm cooler with clips, so if you want it pretty just get the arctic cooling one, but I am just looking for function: And here it is back in my PC! I am using an Asus motherboard Sabertooth R2, and it fits perfectly without any clearance issues on the very top PCI express slot BUT with the backplate that comes with the cooler, I do not think it can fit (atleast from what I have tried with my other 2 coolers) Very satisified with this card and its perfect, and I really hope these pictures and information can help others like me feel confident in doing this and enjoying their RX 480 as much as I am. my temps are around high 40C at idle with the fans not spinning at all, I haven't given it too much of a test yet, but that is a really powerful Noctura 140mm fan I am using, so I highly doubt I will ever reach normal operating temps.
  2. I always had great luck selling all of my video cards here. So I am trying it again! Just seeing if anyone wants it, if I cannot move it, it is not a big deal, as it is my daily use PC. I have owned this for about a year and half now I think, and I have the original invoice for the card if you need it. I also have the original cooler (which was never really used) and hardware, and back plate with it as well if you want it, but I have an Arctic Accelero S3 installed which is a passive cooler, and I felt like I had a really good install so I didn't want to take it off and return it to stock. I currently have a 140mm Noctua SS02 3000rpm fan on that I can just cut the zip ties and remove it before the sale, but with the fan, I would like 130 dollars for all of it. I left the front plat on with the Accelero cooler on it. Pictures are how it looks without the Accelero cooler, and there is pics of the original cooler and back plate as well, and also how it looks installed in my PC. It does a 7,100+ on fire strike all day with my current OC and it will not artifact or crash in any benchmark or tester... I am very confident of its stability and performance. EDIT: Sold it today locally =( really great card, was hoping it would not sell.. but.. ahh well... now I have no excuse but to get a new card!
  3. $100+shipping So my Radeon 7850's VRM's exploded and caught fire, I sent it back to XFX and they sent me back a brand new R9 270. Really nice of them actually.... I had no clue they had such great service. If I don't sell this on here soon, I will sell it thru Amazon fulfillment Heres pictures of it, and its brand new in box with none of the seals broken. [GONE] I guess there was no hits or interest in this, so I went ahead and sent it to amazon. I shipped it off too amazon so I no longer have it.
  4. its about the same as stock, during game play its normally 80-84C
  5. Hello, my last post was on the water cooler on my R9 290. I have a Radeon 7850 now (yeah downgraded) and the stock cooler was alittle bit too loud for me so I went ahead and bought a passive cooler for it. I also installed some heatsinks on the RAM and VRM's I bought swifttech heatsinks, which were the MC21 for the VRMs and the BGA Memory Ramsinks.. BUT the one from switch tech were too TALL!!! i had to cut them in half. heres pictures of me int he process of cutting the ram in half to work using a dremel: now for the install! It was very easy except for me not ordering the right heatsinks and I had to cut them in half. My Radeon 7850 just needed 1 pack of the ram pack and 1 and 1/2 of the MC21 for the VRM's now here is the back side of the videocard where i put the heatpads they provided over the ram and VRM parts: then heatsink goes on top after that: now the other side goes on: and final product: the only notes I would add is that I am using the Asus Sabertooth motherboard, and you have to use one of the middle PCI Express slots, because the heatsink is so large on the top it hits the VRM heatsink on the motherboard, and also you can't use its traditional Crossfire on the bottom on my case because my case (Fractal Design R4) isn't long enough to let the bracket hang off, unless you wanted to run the cooler with no bracket. But for me all of the middle slots are still all PCI-express 16x so it all still works out perfect. Overall it was a very easy install... easier then installing a watercooler HG10 Corsair that I posted about earlier... and its MAINLY because this kit comes with rubber spacers so its impossible to over tighten YET you know its tight enough. I haven't bought an Arctic brand in a while.. but this thing is all quality... even the heatpipes have thermal past on them before it was all sealed up to ensure contact between heatpipes and plates.... I am glad Arctic Cool's quality hasn't changed in the 11 years I have bought them.. the last time i bought a cooler from them was for my Radeon 9800 pro!!!! and the quality, easy installation and safetyness of the hardware during the install has far exceeded my expectations.
  6. $50.00+shipping I just have this sitting around not being used anymore. This was my former card before I got a 290. It still works great with zero issues, it played BF4 extremely well... and in many ways, I am not sure why i upgraded to a 290.
  7. just sold it! Thanks for all of the help and support everyone!
  8. Ok i finished testing it, and its stable in every way possible I think. so now I just have it in its shipping packaged that MSI sent to me, and its waiting for a buyer!
  9. temps on it is great! I would say the temps on it is around 20C less compared to my R9 290 reference that I have.
  10. ok bench results on 3dmark firestorm: 290 Reference stock clocks : 8343 290 Gaming (original card): 8654 290x (the one i sold a month ago): 9015 290 Gaming RMA returned stock: 8703 290 Gaming RMA returned @1030Mhz (same clock as a 290x): 8963 290 Gaming RMA returned @1060Mhz : 9097 yeah.. its close.. but its not a 290x.. its just a 290 Still for sale!!! This is my last 290 I am selling. I am keeping my reference card to water cool.. I would crack open one of those Gaming or X.. but i figured its such a nice aftermarket cooler that I sell these and mod the reference card (because not many people are going to want the reference), theres also still 2 years of warranty left on the card.
  11. oops sorry i corrected it, yeah i did upload the wrong photo! here it is
  12. $200 + shipping Just received this card back from RMA. I sent it to RMA with a bunch of cards, and got this one back today, and GPU-Z shows it has R9 290x shaders and this is what my stock reference R9 290 GPU-Z looks like to compare the shader count This is my last card iam selling!! I sold one earlyer not too long ago. This is a perfect card, trust me, I keep RMAing cards until i get one back with zero fan troubles and artifact problems. And I run benchmarks and fold@home and Litecoin mining on the cards just to test it out to make sure it runs like it should stock.
  13. $35+shipping The XFX 7750 was an impulse buy, so it looks new and has barely been used. I was planning on building and FM2 build, but I ended up getting an AM3, but the 7750 would go well for someone wanting to CrossfireX an FM2 build.
  14. pending sell to member: My_Time I still can't believe all of you members are still around!!!! its been over 10 years now!!! we are all senior members, thanks for the bumps! I sold this one quick.... "My_Time" is a lucky person... because this card is mint... and it passes stress tests and benchmarks with flying colors and record breaking scores... I thought it would work with a regular 290 as well Waco!!! but it doesn't =( I looked at a chart from AMD and it says you can only crossfire of the exact same type, so a a 290x needs to go with another 290x, and a 290 with another 290. http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/Crossfire-Chart.aspx I have another warranty return here soon from MSI... I am going to flip the hell out if they gave me ANOTHER 290x, because i just sold this one..... and I could have had a 290x crossfire setup....
  15. $250 *sold* I originally had a regular R9 290, and when the fans died on it I used the warranty and they they sent back a like new (maybe even brand new..) R9 290x Gamer from MSI. I am currently running it in my system and it passes all benchmarks and passes all heavy distributed computing (like Litecoin mining). I will also provide the invoice to the card, which shows to where MSI swapped out my R9 290 to an R9 290x and the orginal shipping retail box they sent it in, which looks "new" and has the serial number and model number sticker new on both the card and retail box. I am willing to meet up, for up to about a 30 minute drive (Wilmington NC).. or I have no problem shipping it as I still have all the packaging from MSI. I was orginally running crossfire R9 290's so in the picture there are 2 cards, but I am actually just selling 1, which is the R9 290x Gaming 4G because it no longer crossfire's with my R9 290 due to being a different model.
