  1. Thanks for asking. . After your reply checked if it could get to 4G without unlock and found that it requires 1.52V for that and temps are around 56 deg. Therefore for unlocked 555, it will require 1.52V at least and that would perhaps mean no air cooling solution at my ambient temps could keep it less than 55. Am I right here? If that's the case it's better get the best overclock I could with the current setup and forget about it . Suggestions are welcome!
  2. Most reviews do suggest the same. Some other hsf which mighe be considered an upgrade? I will add two fans in push/pull first, test it and report back. Sure? Personal experience or any reviews suggesting that? I would be happy to get megahalems if it can get me 4G and it's within my budget . Should I opt for noctua d14? That a bit pricy, but perhaps I might be able to save a few buck and go for it in a few weeks. I would first try push/pull though.
  3. I have got unlocked 555(see my sig) overclocked to 3.8G on scythe mugen 2 with cpu temps around 55 with linx. I would like to touch 4G but I think temps need to be put under control. I am planning to buy another cooler. With megahalems would I see 4-5 degree difference compared to scythe mugen 2? If it would be just 1-2 deg, then I better opt for something else. Reviews suggest that megahalems shines when temps are high, perhaps above 65. As phenom 2 runs cooler and perhaps should be less than 50 for 4G, I think it might not be worth. If it's better to get something else, what would it be? Currently I dont have the budget to go watercooling. If you are wondering why my temps are so high, please note that I live in south India, ambient temps would be 30-35 in summer. Yes, you read that right and no typing mistakes there. And my nb temps are around 55(with linx) again, so should I provide active cooling for my nb and pwm area? They are hot to touch.
  4. With athlon 620 my system's stable all these days. Suspecting processor to be bad, tried it with my friends mobo. Same problem occurred. I am sure my processor is bad. Will RAM it. RMA's big hassle at my place, hopefully will get replacement soon. @wevsspot : Yes, I have gone through the normal troubleshooting, it's better to do that before posting something, I believe . All of posts here, confirmed I didn't miss anything obvious and made me suspect my processor. Thanks all for your replies.
  5. @wevspot : problem exists from the first day itself. approx 1 month old board. @potatochobit : yes it happens from a cold start. I have changed psu from hx620 to tx750. capacitors all seem fine, no bulging. It perhaps is not grounding issue as I run multiple systems, none have this problem and I changed it's place too . Sorry for replying late, to rule out processor related issue, I have got athlon 620 and would be using it with this processor for a few days and report back.
  6. Yes I tried to clear cmos and it starts without any problems, even without unplugging power cord. Are you talking about bent socket/cpu pin? I did remove cpu and reinstalled it without any difference. Should I check my socket and cpu? EDIT : checked cpu, and atx power pins. Everything good.
  7. @joel.monteiro : I tried F6 and F7 bios till now. When turned on, actually as it's on for just <1 sec and turns off, so question of blue screen. fans spin for <1sec and system is off. @wevsspot : Expecting the same I have changed chasis(from cm haf 922 to elite 335) too. . Any other suggestions? By the way system's stable when running, it passes lynx 20 passes max memory, prime95 4 hours+ without any problems, could play at a stretch for a few hours. all benchmarking software run without issues. Just the occasional boot issue
  8. I have got 790XT UD4P with phenom 2 550. I got a strange problem. When I start my system, sometimes, it turns on for 1-2 seconds and turns off. I cant turn it on now. The only way to turn it on would be to unplug power cord, wait a few seconds and then turn it on. Strange thing is that it happens only once in 2-3 days, not always. I changed psu, cabby and cmos battery too,but to no avail. Still the problem persists. No overclocking running at stock. What could be the problem? Other components : 2x2gbcorsair ddr3 1333 | palit gtx 260 sonic | corsiar hx620w
  9. I understand that, but my mobo doesnt reduce volts in idle mode, only speed. I want volts to be low at idle, low cpu usage
  10. I have got two systems, one intel e5300 based and another amd 550. I overclocked amd to 3.8 and use k10stat to define p states, so that I save power when not heavily loaded. Could you suggest something similar for Intel E5300?
  11. Thanks very much. Will go with 770 UD3P. . I have got haf 932 and hope airflow shouldn't be a problem.
  12. I am planning to go with 770. I have seen its spec and it mentions We recommend that you enhance heat dissipation for the CPU VRM area if an AMD Black Edition CPU is installed and the Advanced Clock Calibration is enable Does it mean good overflow or heatsinks for mosfets? I understand they are being on the safe side, suggesting this, but if they are suggesting heatsinks, I would better go with 790x . What do you suggest. Thanks a lot, taking the pain to answer all my questions As ati dx 11 cards are announced today, I have almost made up my mind to get 5850 for $260. That's a decent price, I think
  13. As gigabyte 790gx costs approximately the same, the difference between them being 790gx has an igp and 790x better phase design.I think I should prefer better phase design for a more stable overclock. What would you recommend? And just going with 770 ud3p wouldn't be a better choice? And I am planning to get gskill rigjaws 4gb cl7 ram. For AM3 perhaps there are better one available. Which are good for less than $100? I plan to use p2 550 unlocked to B50 and dx 11 card(when they release in future, probably 5850 or a 4890 if 5850 is out of my budget)
  14. Thanks for all the replies If gigabyte 770T UD3P does remain cool with an air overclocked quard core phenom 2, then I think this would be a better option for me. It's cheap at newegg for $75. Asus 785TD EVO looks interesting too, it doesnt seem to support crossfire at X8 x8 though. Only X16+X4. Does it overclock as well as gigabyte 770?One advantage I would have with this asus mobo is I could use IGP unitl it's clear whether dx 11 cards would be worth for their price. Is this worth $25 more than gigabyte 770? I cannot afford 790fx as generally they cost more than $150
