Need help finding a good affordable laptop

Hey guys,

My baby needs a Laptop for Uni work and also light gaming, it would be mostly used for office and adobe softwares and games like D3, Sc2 Dota 2... maybe some not so recent shooters as well (UT3?)

I would love it if someone could help me find him something thats on the sweet spot of affordable technology with somewhat decent performances, i am aware that laptops are more expensive than Pc (... its why i have yet to own one )

I did the quickest research ever to see whats up and i found those two which are most likely too expensive for him

I think a nice price to aim for would be up to 1200$ do you guys know of any decent laptop / gpu or sale going on that i should look at?

i feel a bit cheap comming back calling for help as soon as i need another awesome Pc... i got help from user here over a year ago and i love my rigg :D Thanks guize
Thanks a lot for your help :)

My laptop could do that easy. It is an Acer V3-571G and it only cost me $620 AUD, there are a few with the exact same model name but with differenct hardware specs so beware. Mine has an i5 3210M with 4GB DDR3 RAM and a GT630M 1GB graphics chip and a 500GB hard drive and comes with Windows 8.

Edit: Forgot to mention the screen is 15"

MKage - where would you be purchasing from?  A lot easier for us to make recommendations if we know what might actually be available  :)

I've shown the laptop that TehStranger showed me to my boyfriend, i tought it seemed liked it was really reasonably priced and seems to have just enough of what anyone would need or would expect from a laptop ... my boyfriend said "Oh no 2gb of gfx isnt enough, i want 4gb, i want this pc to last..." (im not sure what he expects to get with 1000$ on a laptop...)

I think he would be willing to buy from any places that can ship in Qu

You can take a look on newegg.ca or ncix.ca they both ship in Quebec and they have decent price. I am living on the south of Montreal btw so hello to a fellow quebecer  :woot:

EDIT: Also welcome to the OCC Forums, hope you'll enjoy your stay here.

I'll tell you without reservation that your boyfriend does not need 4Gb of vram (gpu ram) in a laptop.  And since you are the one footing the bill for this "gift" you actually should have more of a say in it than him!  If he is pressing you to blow your budget to make him happy, maybe you should re-train him or consider giving him the boot all together and spending that $1200 on yourself   :)

Possibly one of the biggest questions to answer is whether he will settle for Windows 8 or if he wants a Windows 7 machine.  It's getting harder to find laptops with Windows 7 - so if that is a consideration then we need to know.

At any rate, here are a few choices.  I'm linking from Newegg, more to give you an idea of model number and pricing.  From there you'll need to check where you can buy from.

+1 4GB of Vram... I'm not sure how many gaming pcs need that much, let alone a laptop for uni work. Put that money where it counts, not in useless numbers. That acer wev mentioned is good, my dad has one at work, he loves it.

Actually i agree about 4gb GPU being too much, im pretty sure my 1 year old gaming rigg has 2gb gpu and i dont think its time for a upgrade yet and no im not the one who's in charge of paying for the laptop, i just took upon me to ensure he buys a pc based on specs and needs not marketting and hype ... and i also want a bit of research done so that i can pick a good price for a good machine :D

Thanks Erosannin, i live in NDG :P ... hello ^-^; , i did order most of my computer parts from NCIX or newegg (or maybe tiger direct? ... i forgot) and i even managed to forget to send my mail in rebates -.-;

websspot i'll have to review those links with him, thanks for doing some of the thinking for me ... i take time to process stuff xD

That samsung laptop looks gorgeous (i have a crush on samsung lately for some reason), its a shame i live in canada otherwise id almost consider buying it for myself
