  1. I just got my 3.0C up to 3.30, getting 34-35C idle and I figure I can push it higher, I want to try for 3.5 but I'm not sure if I can with this Spark 7+ (although it is cooling decently right now). Any ideas?
  2. My 9600XT has an on-dye temperature sensor that can be monitored via the overdrive tab in the card's advanced options. Most cards tend not to ship with such temperature sensors, although I do know that asus puts their own sensor on some of their cards. Which card do you have?
  3. I've seen a 2.8C go to 3.36 on air cooling (my friend's) using a duct mod, I suppose that could be worth checking out.
  4. I got my IC7-G MAXII Advance today, thinking that I could have it up and running before evening. Got everything set up, windows installed with SP1 and my second hard drive in and working. The problems started when I plugged in my third hard drive, a 200GB WD EIDE drive. My other two are SATA drives, one is a 120 and the other a 160. I can load all drives and I see them in BIOS just fine, but after I leave the first screen (where I can get into BIOS) and where it normally loads windows, it just won't load windows. It stays on a blank, black screen, with no error message. I've been at this for about 6 hours and am ready to call it quits and return the board for an ASUS, so if anyone knows anything that could help fix this it would be very much appreciated.
  5. It's original, I'll give it that, but is it practical? I've left my PS2 on for a month without problems and the stock fan seems to be fine. A window mod for a PS2 would be... interesting though. Also, I've taken a Dreamcast apart and there is almost nowhere that an extra fan would help it, imho.
  6. I ended up getting the WD because it was a bit cheaper and I wanted to avoid getting two seagates next to each other (my 120gb seagate runs at about 35C or so, there's actually a temp monitor inside it that I can check up on using PCWizard). As for other drives, I have a 40gb maxtor and a 10gb Quantum Fireball in my server (yes, it's old). The Fireball has been in there since I got it and hasn't given me any problems at all. The Maxtor has been in for about 2 or 3 years, I can't remember, but it started clicking and whining about 3 months ago.
  7. Some of the reviews for the Seagate say that they had problems with Seagate's software and winxp pro. I didn't quite understand what they meant was going on. Has anyone had the same problems that the reviewers discussed?
  8. I'm currently trying to decide between two drives, both 160Gb SATA drives from different manufacturers. I currently have a 120gb SATA drive from Seagate that runs flawlessly, but I've been reading a few negative reviews about the 160gb offering from Seagate on newegg (which is where I'll be buying it from). Can anyone recommend the better drive of the two? Links: Western Digital's 160gb SATA Seagate's 160gb SATA Thanks!
  9. You know, by the time 64 bit goes 'mainstream', they'll already have something new in the works. Something like 64 bit is to 32 bit. I guess the common view is something along the lines of "The faster it is, the faster something else could be." Basically, by the time you pay as much for a 64 bit CPU that you do for a 32 bit CPU, some insane new innovation will have arrived (I dare say 128bit). Guess that's the way things work. My next upgrade will be an overhaul, like my jump from a 500 mhz AMD K-6 to a 3 ghz was. I like to see massive amounts of improvement.
  10. I have a BBATI 9600XT (Overdrived core at 526/600 mem), and I can play Halo just fine. It's never locked up or given me errors. Are you using a vendor card (Asus, Powercolor, Tyan)?
  11. A friend of mine got a 5950U and had the same problem. He cut a hole in the shroud, put a duct on it, and connected the duct to a casefan he had. It's a tad loud, but it seems to be working (with a decent OC on the core as well). The only downside to this is that he lost 2 pci slots, and a ton of dust builds up on/around the card (has to be cleaned every so often). I guess it's just a matter of how far you are willing to go.
  12. I have a 'Built by ATI' 9600XT, and it runs quite well. I'm sure Sapphire has added a few goodies to the card, so that price seems fair. I suppose you posted the specs in the other thread? The answer is, yes. The 9600XT is set to play pretty much every game that's out there. I run UT2k3 at slightly higher than moderate settings and I get an average fps of 118 highest, 94 lowest (but I'm sure my P4 helps out). While this is a good card, it's no match for the 9800 Pro, which is cheaper now. It all depends on your budget.
  13. The VGA silencer is listed as for 9800's, will it fit/work on a 9600XT? Since it requires external power that the 9600XT doesn't, how will I get it to the cooler?
  14. My 9600XT runs at a stable 526MHz core at 39-42 C. I figured that I could squeeze a bit more speed out of it, and even more with a better cooling solution. The stock cooling assembly on the card does well but I want to see how much I can do with this card. Does anyone have an idea of the safest maximum OC for the core? Also, has anyone found or come up with ideas for mounting other coolers on a similar card (such as heatsinks that would fit)? Thanks.
  15. Dell is apparently anti-mod. I posted a thread in their forums requesting empty Optiplex GX270 cases to experiment cutting, and the thread was deleted and never replied to. Peh. I guess I'll just learn to weld and go that direction.
