audio device not showing up

I got home yesterday and noticed that my sound was coming from one of my monitors. I have a 5.1 set-up that I use for speakers, and headphones that I need to plug into mobo on back of computer because of feedback/static coming from front panel headers. What I do is just unplug my speakers and plug in my headphones when I need to use them and then replace. Yesterday the speakers were plugged in as normal, and one of the kids, they all say they didn't do it, had plugged in the headset into different rear ports whilst the speakers were still plugged in. Ever since the sound only comes out of my 2nd monitor, device manager won't even recognize the headset when plugged in front or back. I'm at a loss here, and it's reall put a damper on my gaming. Can anyone help me out?? Thx in advance for any responses.

Realtek website only has "codec's" Should I try to DL one of those and install? Is it ok to overwrite audio drivers?

Do you still have the original audio driver disc/install file that came with your motherboard? Could be worthwhile to see if it has a repair function.

Time to reinstall the audio driver.

If that can't solve the problem, well, there could be many other possibilities.

Get back with the result of re-installation of audio driver.

All is well again, DL'd the driver from asus.com. Thanks for the push gents.
