  1. 1. What CPU+iGPU would you choose at current prices?

    • i3-3220 (HD2500) for $115

    • i3-3225 (HD4000) for $145
    • AMD A10-5800K (HD7660D) for $130
  2. 2. What CPU would you choose if no iGPU was an option for the 3220?

    • i3-3220 (no iGPU) for $80
    • i3-3220 (HD2500) for $115

I'd go with the A10 too, even if it is $15 more expensive, if I bought the i3 I would have kicked myself for not spending the extra.

The extra performance from the A10 (especially considering this is a gaming build) would be worth it.

GPU+iGPU, AMD all the the way...

As for the second option... If you went for a dedicated card, I dont see why you shouldn't still use a AMD A10, then throw whatever card is crossfiring with it these days and call it a day. You'd end of with a beyond entry level gaming machine for a relatively small cost, certainly call that a win any day of the week.

It is always a question of how much GPU you require.

If you can live with iGPU 2500, 3000, or 4000, the faster CPU and lower power rule.

If you benefit by the HD7660D, then by all means go for it.

If gaming starts at HD7770/GTX 550 Ti, than the upgradeability of the Intel Appeals.

I've built A8 3870K/A75 and they work well (admittedly review sample motherboards ($40 ea) and $70 3870s made for great value).

I have built Pentium G620/G860 H61 rigs with and without video cards.

If it does the job, use it.

What bothers me is Intel iGPUs are fine short of gaming, FX has none.

APUs FM2 are fine FX 4100/4300 joined to GPU using motherboard memory.

And the APUs scale video with cost, no HD7660D with an A4/A6, which would seem the entire point"no .

Oh well, "no answers here, these aren't the CPUs you are looking for.."

Lol @ everyone hating the HD2500

you are one of them ;)

Guilty!! (I wasn't even a huge fan of my last laptop's HD3000, that had occasional hiccups with trivial things. I'm quite happy with my HD4000 but am a big fan of the APU's from AMD since I have a "lowly" E350 that plays my nintendo 64 emulator smoother as well as accurately rendering the scenes correctly even though it's supposed to be one of the weakest CPUs)

Lol @ everyone hating the HD2500

Cause it's nothing compared to 7660D present in APUs.

At this budget, I would have gone with APU - A10.

Indeed, as mentioned the HD6310 in my E350 is amazing in comparison to intel's offerings so I can only imagine their newer/stronger APUs

The APU route is very solid for light gaming. Plus down the road for a modest upgrade to a 6750 or 6670 you can do the Hybrid Crossfire and get a really nice performance boost...
