  1. So I'm planning a new build, with the following: Phanteks Enthoo Primo (with 5x 140mm fans included) Corsair H115i MSI SeaHawk X in SLI Was wondering what the optimal fan/radiator placement and orientation would be? As per website (and OCC review), there's space for the following (although outdated): FAN: Front: 140mm fan x 2 (2 x 140mm blue LED included) Top: 140mm x 3 (1 included) Rear: 140mm fan x 1 (1 included) Side: 140mm x 2 (optional) Bottom: 140mm x 2 (1 included) HDD cage: 120mm fan x 2 (optional) LIQUID COOLING: Front: Up to 240mm (with 120mm fans) Top: Up to 480mm (with 120mm fans) or up to 420mm (with 140mm fans) Side (w/o HDD cages): Up to 240mm (with 120mm fans) Rear: 120mm or 140mm Bottom: Up to 480mm (with 120mm fans) or up to 280mm (with 140mm fans) Was thinking: Front: 2 intake fans Top: H115i Radiator (exhaust) + ? Rear: 2 exhaust fans Bottom: 2 GPU Radiators (intake) Side: ? So have an extra 140mm fan that can either go up top or on the side. Suggestions on where ideal to place it? Would it be bad to have the CPU radiator up top, exhausting air out (so intake would be lukewarm air from the case)? There's also a filter up top so intake is possible. Would it be ideal to have the GPU down on the bottom for intake? There's quite a small headroom for air to come in. I can also place the two radiators on the Side, provided I remove the HDD Cage (planning on getting hot-swapable HDD cages that fit in the 5.25 bay in the future). Thanks!
  2. @sword_fish I've read that part, my other PCIe slots are empty, except for the PCIe x1 for a soundcard, but that isn't included in the list that would disable the 2B slot. Still haven't moved the GPU back to the 2B slot after reinstalling board drivers, will try it tonight and see how it goes.
  3. I remember that I did install the drivers that came with the MB, but I'm not sure if the ones for chipset was included in the pack or if I need to install them separetely. Might update BIOS and drivers and see hot it goes. If I'm not mistaken, you might be right about the secondary chip. Will update here if I get it working.
  4. Not sure if this goes to this board or the GPU one, but I'm thinking it's more of a MB question than a GPU one. I recently bought a Maximus V Extreme with two GTX 690s. When I installed them on the motherboard via the first (1A) and third (2B) PCI-E slots (as instructed in the manual), the motherboard doesn't detect the second 690 (connected to the 2B slot). After interchanging both GPUs and nothing worked, I tried connecting the second 690 to the second slot (2A), the motherboard was able to detect both. Is this correct since I'm suppose to refer to Quad-SLI and not SLI for positioning since a 690 is already in SLI? Also, what's the optimal positioning for the second 690 since being connected to the 2A slot, it's sitting next to the first 690 which limits airflow. P.S. haven't done benchmarks yet, would rather get an answer here before tinkering to limit chances of damage to the cards. Thanks in Advance!
  5. I'm interested since I leave my PC on all the time, so might as well try it out. Same goes to my work computer which I leave on so I can RDP when I'm out.. Might cost a few more on electricity, but might be a good experiment..
  6. Seems like a cool idea (sorry for hijacking the thread). One question though, is it still profitable to mine bitcoins considering the dedicated rigs out there that can out mine your usual consumer PCs? Also, how does one eactly get the money / bitcoins. Is there like a paypal for bitcoins?
  7. Thanks for all the inputs. I guess that, with quality components, the question whether to shut down / stand by / leave on would barely make much difference to the life of the PC in its normal time frame, esp for those of us who change / upgrade parts every 4 - 6 years at the very least. Thinking this applies more to those who buy PCs and expect them to last forever..
  8. So, considering I've got myself a nice Corsair 1200w PSU (plus a UPS to esure good supply), I shouldn't have to worry about the power surges. So, that leaves heat / normal wear and tear then, so it'd be better to shut down / standby to stop components from being in a stage of constant heat? Also, is it the constant heat that deteriorates components or as Waco puts it, temperature fluctuations?
  9. Sorry if this has been posted somewhere, but all post I found are old and some refer to 'new' motherboards that basically just made everything even more complicated. So I just got a new, $ 4k Gaming Rig for myself, and considering that it's one hell of a big investment, I'd want to get the most of it. So, my question is, should you leave your PC on when you're not using it (just have the monitor go on standby), turn it off, place it on standby, hybernate? Most post I see say that you shouldn't turn off since the constand turning on-and-off can cause surges in power that may damage the mobo and everything that's connected to it. Then someone went on to say that new, quality motherboards no longer suffer from the same problem. So what is it really? I currently just leave mine on and it's been 5 years already with no noticable problems. P.S. I have the PC connected to a UPS to protect it from power surges from the outlet, so it should protect it from those, but not necessarily surges in power when turning the PC on and off.
  10. So I have got two 680s on the mail, and got an old 460 from an old rig. Is it advisable to include this as the dedicated physX card? Would imagine it gives better framerates, but are there known bugs when using this set-up?

  12. Yes, I was just taken by surprise that they didn't do the same color like what's usually found in RAM slots. And it's my first mb that supports SLI, so a bit of a noob moment for me there..
  13. So I got the Maximus V Extreme from ASUS and planning to install 2 2slot GPU's. I read the manual and was surprised to learn that the slots recommended for 2way SLI is the top most, red slot, and the third from the top, black one. I always assumed that the ones marked in red are designed to be faster than the black one. Is this an error, or am I just assuming too much? Good thing too that I read the manual before jumping into it.
  14. I didn't think of that, thinking I could always replace those files.. Another question: I have a 256GB SSD, I can't do a RAID 1 with a HDD because the capacity wouldn't be the same and the SSD would suffer from the slow write times of the HDD. Is there a way that my SSD would always be backed up to a HDD without having to schedule a backup every day/week/month? Something like RAID 1 which is instanteneous, but without the lag of the HDD writing times.. Also, is there a way to have my 2 2TB HDDs show as one 4TB drive without using RAID 0 so I wouldn't have to do some file management, while still maintaining their independence, losing one drive only destroys the files on that drive and everything on the other is still maintained?
  15. I thought as much, most likely I didn't understand properly that he did RAID 0 on the SSDs and RAID 1 on the HDDs, but refered to it as RAID 10. Anyway, since SSDs wouldn't necessarily need to be on RAID 0, I guess it's alright if I do just a single SSD and be done with it. But if I'll be using HDDs for storing files, isn't it better to do RAID 0 if I already have 2 idenical 2TB HDDs and don't need the redundancy of RAID 1? It'll be the same as using the 2 for a total of 4TB, whether or not I have them in RAID 0 or not..
