  1. High there, I am looking into upgrading to a 8800GTS overcloked video card. Probably this one........ http://www.extremepc.com.au/product_info.p...products_id=785 My question is, will my power supply be up to it?? It is a 500W supply so that is covered, but the info on the retailers website says I need the +12 current rating to be 22Amps. The specs on my PSU say I have a +12(1) +12(2) and +12(3) all rated at 17 amps, does this mean my supply is rated at a total of 51 amps or will I be unabele to run this particular video card due to my psu??? Sorry but I dont understand fully how the PSU works....... Please be nice to me I am a Newbie! Oh forgot to add that the rest of the system is..... E6600 at 2.88Ghz Asus P5N-E SLi OCZ Gold 2Gb dual channel kit at 667Mhz Currently running a Nvidia 7600GT vid card.
  2. Yes there was an error but it was listed as a PCI device, it wasnt specific about which device (no name). Anyway I have fixed it now, I re-installed my nvidia motherboard drivers including letting it auto install the onboard sound drivers this time around and it fixed the problem....???!!!! All good now.
  3. Finished building a new computer yesterday. With winodws XP. I installed all my drivers from the supplied disks for the extra hardware I have installed in the computer. I keep getting the "new hardware detected" wizard popping up everytime I reboot the system. The wizard tells me the device is a PCI device but dosnt stipulate the name of the device. The only device I have in the PCI slots is a creative 5.1 sound card. (Which is working as I have installed the software for this card When the wizard prompts to search over the net for appropriate drivers I get an error saying software could not be found. I also get a similar error when I prompt the wizard to search the supplied CD. How do I get rid of this annoying pop up??? System is Intel E6600 Asus P5N-E-SLI with Nvidia 650 chipset Asus 7600GS vid card OCZ 2GB DDR2 ram kit Creative 5.1 sound card
  4. Thanks for the words guys!! I am just going to put this thing together for starters, been a long time since I messed around with the insides of computers (not since highschool 10 years ago) so it will be a learning curve in itself. However the more I read, it appears that the E6600 can be pushed a lot faster than it comes out of the box. Can someone please point me in the direction of some very BASIC steps to overclocking please??? (remember newbie here) The info on these forums is quite interesting but a lot of it is in gobblygook language to me. Where do I go to get my traning wheels??
  5. Thanks for the good info. I will look into the vid cards you mention, will the one I have ordered keep me out of trouhle for the time being??? I am intrested in how this SLi works, and would like to learn more, can you point me in the right direction for some info, remember I have been playing with planes and not computers for quite a few years now.......
  6. Yeah, those fancy motherboards and vid cards throw my budget out the window. Heres an example of Aussie prices to put the 2000 bucks into perspective. www.umart.com.au I have actually gone ahead and ordered the parts as I need to get up and running fairly quickly. The other half is not coping without the internet at home!! I can always get a better vid card at a later date if I need it. So heres what I got...... Intel core duo E6600 ASUS P5N32-E-SLi 2Gb of OCZ DDR2 Ram at 1000mHz Asus Nvidia 7600GT vid card. PLus all the other little bits like a sound card and HDD and DVD burner. I am putting it all in an Antec nine hundred V2 case. I am sure this is not the best I could have bought but at least it gets me back on the net at home, and it nearly fits in the 2000 buck price range!!!
  7. Flight sims, particularly specialised model aircraft flight sims that have a very realistic physics processor. These sims really suck the juice of a system, especially if you want good frame rate at a half decent resolution. I also like first person shooters, but havnt had a computer fast enough to play any for the last 3 years.....! So I dont even know what the current games are like.
  8. Like I said before, I have been out of the game so to speak for a long time. Could you please elaborate on what some of the terms you are using stand for?? Specifically the evga board?? I am assuming it is a motherboard?? WHo makes this type of board? x10 vid card???? Is that in my price range? COuld you maybe link me to a site that seels them so I know exactly what I am looking for?
  9. I am looking to get the best I can get hold of with the whole 2k, I can extend a little more if need be. My main needs are fast graphics, good sound and the abilty to multitask many windows at once. As a secondary consideration I am interested in blinging the thing up somewhat as well. No point making a nice machine and making it look boring. I am a bit of a techno head and like to tinker...... I build $10,000 gas engined model aeroplanes for my hobby and am not afraid of having a tinker. So I am also drawn to the fancy cooling systems you guys put on your machines.
  10. Hi guys, please bear with me. My ye olde PC finally kicked the bucket this christmas. Its time to build a whole new rig from scratch. I am finding the whole plethora of components a bit a a head scratcher. Specifically I am having difficulty choosing a processor. Its been a long time since I have looked or read about computer specs and need some help. I am interested in running the Core 2 duo processor, specifically the E 6600, however I am interested to know what its equivalent would be in the AMD line, and how it stacks up. I know nothing about overclocking, but am curious to learn more. If someone could point me to the "dummies guide" that would also be much appreciated. My budget is about $2000 (Australian) 1600 us dollars. I dont need a monitor or other auxilaries, just the 'rig'. It will be used for games and multitasking/internet use. Any expert opinions and help would be much appreciated, cheers,...... Ben.
