  1. Hi all, Need to do a quick budget build and wanted some advice on what i have selected so far. This will just be a light use rig that will be used for some Corel work (vectors), browsing, and watching movies (HD). I already have a 500W Cooler Master PSU, case, and drives. I have a old vid card as well for it that will hand HD movies easily (have to dig it out to see what it is but nothing high powered for sure) Edit: Found the Vid card and it is a GeForce GTX 550 Ti Object is to get the best bang for the buck and stay under $350 CDN Here is the parts I have chosen so far: Mobo: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138372 CPU: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113286 CPU Cooler: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103099 RAM: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231544 Total: $334.96 How does this look to you guys?
  2. After a bunch more research I think I might change things up a bit and go AMD. I have always been a AMD fanboy but this time around almost went with Intel. Here is what I am looking at getting now. CPU: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113284 MOBO: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131876 RAM: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233252 PSU: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139014 OS HD: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147193 HDD 2: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148840 Vid Card: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202003 If you guys could help me put together a watercooling system for it that would be great. I am not really sure what fittings, how much tubing, and sizes to get. For the block i was looking at >> http://www.frozencpu.com/products/14191/ex-blc-972/XSPC_RayStorm_High_Performance_Acetal_CPU_Liquid_Cooling_Block_-_AMD_Sockets_AM2_AM2_AM3_FM1.html?tl=g30c323s1205 I have no clue on the rest such as a Rad, pump, and as mentioned all the needed fittings.
  3. Ok I'll be ordering the parts sometime in the next week. Here is the list so far: Case: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146089 CPU: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116492 RAM: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226403 PSU: http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=66656&vpn=P11050BEFX&manufacture=XFX&promoid=1316 HDD 1: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147193 HDD 2: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148840 MOBO: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131801 WaterCooling: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835146028 I have a buddy who just told me he would sell me his Vid cards. He has 2 of these >> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127575 and will let them both go for $200 USD so I'll grab those I think as thats enough power for me in the Vid card department.
  4. How difficult is it to remove the IHS? Anybody has seen temperature differences between watercooling with IHS and without it? Be curious to see how much of a difference there is.
  5. Great thanks I ws thinking of the Sabertooth rather than the Gigabyte board. I spent the last few hours reading reviews on both boards and the GB board seems to have some issues and has received quite a few mixed and bad reviews compares with the Asus board. Have you used that GB board?
  6. Great info thanks. Newegg discontinued the 2700 so i am looking at the Intel Core i7-3930K Sandy Bridge-E 3.2GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) LGA 2011 130W Six-Core Desktop Processor http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116492 A bit pricey but I don't mind if it is worth it. I have tons of stuff going on at the same time many days so the extra cores will be welcome I am sure. I was looking at the ASUS Sabertooth X79 LGA 2011 Intel X79 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131801 To pair it with. Good choice? Or is there another board you guys would recommend?
  7. 4 years ago I broke my own rule and bought a pre-built rig out of sheer speed and convenience. I have regretted that decision for 4 years. That little Acer mini tower is now sitting on a piece of cardboard (it's the X-3200 with the 9100e quad Phenom at 1.8) in pieces and working but dying and way to slow. I have started gaming again as well as doing a lot of encoding (HD) so I have decided to start a new build that will rip at encoding and allow me to play the latest FPS flawlessly. I have been out of the loop for 4 years so really have some research to do. I am also a OC addict though I have not done that either in the last few years so I want this RIG able to OC very well. I spent today researching CPUs and have decided on the i7-4770K Haswell >> http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=19-116-901 What would be the best match for a motherboard? The budget for this build is $2-$3k (USD). Also I would like to watercool the rig as i plan to run F@H and do not want to hear the noise from the fans.
  8. So far Ivy doesn't look like a big leap forward over SB and the unlocked chips sound like they may be limited for big OCs due to some missing features?
  9. Fixed. What i get for posting before my first coffee lol.
  10. Well after being out of the loop for a very longtime I decided to get back into building my own rigs and OCing. My first rig I eve d was a P3 450 mhz Coppermine. I dicscovered OCing and ended up running that Coppermine at 850 mhz for a year than built my next rig a AMD 2500 M for those of you remember that awesome OCing CPU. Than I went MIA from the computer world due to real life issues and am now slowly finding my way back. This build which I nicknamed Project Pheno is scheduled for February 2012. What I want from this Build: 1> Ability to OC! I love to push it as far as possible and than push a bit more I want to get some big speeds from this Rig. 2> F@H I have always been a big fan of F@H and the more this rig can crunch the better. 3> HD movies and encoding/decoding. We watch alot of HD 1080 and do alot of decoding and encoding so want the rig to be fast and smooth for this. 4> Gaming. I will do some gaming and want to be able to play any of the new and upcoming games at full res and smooth. I love FPS. 5> Not only am I obsessed with OCing I am obsessed with big scores on all types of benchmarks so overall speed is a factor. The Budget- Roughly 2k this is for just the box I already have monitor, speakers etc.. I live in Montreal QC and so far haven't found a real good store to use for parts. I would prefer to buy locally so if you know of a good store here please post a link. Watercooling or subzero are both options. As long as it is dependable and able to operate under heavy load 24/7. So please leave advice and suggestions as right now I am trying to catch up and have no idea what's out there or coming as far as hardware. Hardware List and Links CPU- ?? RAM- ?? MOBO- ?? Hard Drives- SSD in RAID 0 (Hardware Controller) Brand? Case- ?? PSU- ?? Watercooling- ?? Vid Card(s)- ?? DVD Burner- ?? I'll be doing some research and updating this as I go also based on what people suggest. Thanks for any help you can give me on this!
  11. I figured somebody would say that but trying to find somebody to buy is near impossible for me. I don't ebay and don't know anybody that would buy so basically no connections for selling these.
  12. Well for starters I am way out of the loop. I used to build custom gaming rigs and do repairs/upgrades for people but that is going on 6 years ago. I bought a pre-built about a year ago. This is something I would swore I would never do but laziness, price, and convenience made me do it and now I pay. I bought a Acer Aspire x3200 and a few days ago had the PSU blow which fried the cheap mobo and the vid card. I also have a Dell poweredge 1435 which I am using now for writing this. It's a old server I used to run a private MMORPG server last year but due to time shortages has to close it and have it shipped to my house. We were actually using it and the box it is in as a makeshift coffee table for our basement lol. So now I need to figure out a way to come up with a decent rig out of this server and my pre-built POS. I do plan on building a better rig in the next year as I love to OC and push limits but for now finances have me just needing to get by for now. We watch alot of movies and prefer HD (1080) with a good sound system. Here are the specs on the 2 computers. Acer x3200 CPU: AMD Phenom Quad Core (speed I think was 1.8?) RAM: 4GB HD: Seagate 600 GB SATA 2 DVD: No idea but Blue-Ray supported Dell Poweredge SC 1435 MOBO: No idea but says it has pci look here for general specs Click For Specs Ram: 12GB DDR 2 CPU: 2x Dual Core Opteron (2.0 GHZ) HD: 2x 3.5" SAS (15K rpm): 73GB I had thought of using the poweredge with external video and audio cards but the thing is just too noisy. So what would you do?
