Any suggestions on a sub $600?

The issue you are going to have with a single recording and playing system is that you need a ton of CPU cores to offload the recording function and not steal from the game. I think this might be one of those times when a FX processor might just be a better choice. I would look at the 8320 for the processor. If you could swing an extra $150 I would look for an external recording box like an HD PR 2. That will offload the recording and you can make it run back into the system for storage of the recording with minimal resource hits.

Here's my suggestion:

After rebate it's $600 + whatever shipping you choose.  Upgradable to a "K series" processor and whatever else.  Toss in either whatever HDD you have now or add a larger one for a few more $$$ (since most people either have a strong preference or old drives laying around I didn't want to limit your options).

That case only fits Micro ATX motherboards.  :pfp:

I have a newegg list for you...and some thoughts. Stay away from the Asus m4n68t mobo it has a nvidia chipset that has hyper thread issues, ive bought them. ECS mobo's are the cheapest around, i've seen so many failed mobo's.

This totals $462.00 is matched well & will rock & roll. It leaves HDD allowance, and some periphial fans. The mid-tower case will run a little cooler, and handle the full ATX board. If you are getting a video card get a board without onboard graphics.

$640 minus $30 in rebates gets this setup for $610.

1TB hard drive, 7870 Card, and crossfire ready, will need a new psu if/when you go that way.

So Wev and Red have dif't mobos in their pick but chose the same RAM.

I'm guessing they didn't check the list of supported RAMs. Is it just a good bet that the Corsair RAM will have no issues?

Fine, change the case. I was drunk when I put it together and that's the only issue with it. :P

Ivan - for the most part you can disregard the MB maker's "Approved" memory listing.  At best it's for reference only.  With all the different motherboards out there, all the different memory modules out there, it's impossible for the board maker, or the memory maker to test every conceivable combination of the two.

The important thing is getting the correct form factor (i.e. DDR2, DDR3 etc.), correct voltage and memory that runs at the speeds supported by that particular motherboard.

One of the first things we probably should have asked is whether you had a preference for Intel or AMD on the cpu, and whether you had a preference for nVidia or AMD on the GPU.

Waco offered a great package if you want to go Intel.  And then of course there are plenty of AMD baskets in here too if you wanted to go the AMD route.

I picked the PNY GTX 550Ti over the eVGA because it is $20 cheaper right now.
