  1. I have a couple of questions. In any of these games tested, did any benefit from 2 extra cores in any way. Did the games that use Havoc Physics have any benefit ? I believe Havoc relies more on processor than the graphics card ??? With the 6 core...... frame rates are the usual with benchmarks but did any of the games actually "feel" or were they noticeably smoother running ? When doing benchmarks, do you actually play any of these games or do you use a built in benchmark system of yours or manufacturers design ? Why no benchies at 1920x1200 ? Nobody plays games at 800x600 and those could be eliminated.
  2. "I don't think this site really caters to the user who just wants to run on the edge of obsolescence, buying just enough processing capability to perform at minimum or mid-range settings of whatever game captures their fancy at that point in time. Speaking of which, I may be missing your point entirely, I've kinda forgotten all the back and forth " HUH? I got more high end stuff than newegg does thank you very much. I have obsessive compulsive disorder. I like to see all there is to see when I read something. And yes, I do have "older" cards but they seem not to exist as soon as the "new" stuff comes out........... whether the "new" stuff is really better than the "old" stuff..... who can tell without the information readily in front of you ? Over a short time information and settings change and skew the information provided in the later benchmarks...... if it weren't for the link provided, and then carefully reading the hardware and settings involved, an uninformed user may not make the best purchases available. I think that this is what I am getting at that unfortunately some of you seem to have missed. and to quote you again " I've kinda forgotten all the back and forth " not easy to remember when it's not right in front of you is it ?
  3. Something I never thought of doing is to find an adapter to go from 90mm - 120mm. Found a couple of sites earlier today so things are looking up. Get a deal with free shipping and it's do-able.
  4. Well, maybe I should have said the 460 might not be any better than the 280.......... do you understand now ?..................... omitting the DX architecture.
  5. You need to back and read what I printed. I know it's a different card. But you can't readily see by the charts provided how it stood against "last" generation cards. It's only compared with newer cards. After reading the review in the link provided and checking out the hardware used and the clock speeds I determined that it really wouldn't be a worthy upgrade for me. It would have been much easier for me or any reader to determine this if all the cards were listed in the chart. Perhaps the owner/benchmarker could make a hierarchy chart sometime in the future.... using the same hardware and clock speeds ... ???? I've been building machines and buying hardware for about 10 years now. I am wise to what goes on on the hardware side of things but would be nice to have a more comprehensive "look" at things...... not that I'm really complaining about what we already got. It's also tough for the average gamer/user to guess what the card will do on their machine. I'm sure most people who read these benchmarks don't have "bleeding edge" technology. I still use a Q9550. How well is that going to push this new hardware. No way to tell until you bench it yourself..... although I'm savvy enough to have that figured out already. referring to the "name change" thing. Making the differentiation that the 460 might not be any better than say a 260...... can you figure out what I'm getting at ?
  6. Thanks for the link. Checked it out and thought something didn't add up. Then I looked harder at the test set up. The GTX460 review has an over clocked processor whereas the other it's running stock. TBH I don't think I'll "upgrading" to a 460. The numbers aren't much better than what I can achieve with what I have. Did they just change the name ( again ) from the last series cards and enable DX11 through software change ?........ LOL. I know the hardware changed but there's truly not much to offer here unless you jump to the higher end. Why do they do this ? I'm one of those people that just has to have the next "great" toy but this bums me out.
  7. What happened to the 4870/4890/GTX260/GTX275's...............I'd like to know how these cards are in comparison to the last generation cards. It's as if they all of a sudden didn't exist. Not a very comprehensible benchmark without these also. Knowing where they fall in line might make me consider an upgrade. But if the new cards fall short of a prospects expectations we could save money for a better card or wait til the next gen........ This is about the consumer right ?
  8. I have a question about the card. I went over to newegg to check it out. The "TOP" version they have does not match the card you're calling a "TOP". They do have the card you have pictured but the values are less. Which one is the right card ?
  9. I just took a look at the board and would say no. I use tall memory sticks, 2+1/8 inches to be exact. Although they would "probably" not be in the way I also took in where the processor would be inre to the 1 or 2 fans and the radiator. And then you have the actual heat sink/impeller-pump. Would be a tight fit indeed if I thought it would actually work but from all the pictures I've seen from other sites I don't think it will. And personally I wouldn't want to put it up top anyways. Thanks for the input though. And tonight I looked over at the egg for a replacement. Ironically the only other small case I could find that gave the right amount of room for a large video card and mounting the radiator was the CM341 also inn the review. Not as nice and not as "airy" but It will suffice.
  10. I was just looking at this case the other night. Unfortunately you can't use a 120mm fan in the back so it negates the H50 or H70 I wanted to use. Nice case though.
  11. Of course being professional reviewers you are aware that the extra memory isn't there to give you extra frames per second but to enable higher graphics settings right ? So how does this card fare when you crank up the AA beyond the 2 or 4 you have it set at compared with the same for the other cards in the test set up. ? 1gig vs 2gig at say 8 or 16AA or 16Q in Crysis........ and maximum settings in FarCry2. Does the extra memory help there ? I'll take Crysis for an example. I used an over clocked XFX GTX260 ( 640/2300 ) for a while. I wanted to see if the higher memory cards would make a difference so I purchased a 1792 card. At 16x10 with 8aa Crysis looked a lot better with the edges "cleaned" up and I could actually play it without any problems where as with the 896 version you couldn't turn the aa on. What say you ?.... and as I load FarCry2 again to play it reminds me of view draw distance.
  12. I've been reading things here on a daily basis for a long time. This is the first post on this site for me. My question is to the person/people who did this review. During your testing of Mirrors Edge, did you think to try and use a physics card along with that 4870 ? And if you didn't how's about a try. I have one of those and it's useless with the new Nvidia cards. I get poorer performance with the GTX260 and a physics card that I do with 1 GTX260 with physics enabled. My hunch is that the 4870 and physics card would be compatible together by just using the card along with the physics driver only....... what do you think ? ( ATI 9.1 & nvidia 9.09 )...or whatever it is now.
