Power Supply Blues, need advise

Something went wrong with my OCZ psu. When I tried the paperclip trick, it wasn't powering up completely, the fan light was faint and same with the fan speed. When I plugged a video card, it wouldn't power up at all. (I tried 2 different video cards, I think my current video card got messed up with the PSU)(I tested both the 6 pin connectors, and even the 2x4-pin to 6pin convert, and the PSU not power on at all). I placed a ticket into OCZ, still no response. I don't have the receipt for it either so i'm not sure what will happen.

 

If OCZ doesn't do anything, I'm going with a different brand. My old PSU, when that got messed up, Ultra, they replaced it and upgraded it, horrah for life time warranty.

 

According to all the psu calculators i tried out, i should be fine with anything over 450, I figure 500+ would be safe.

Hardware:

cpu: core 2 duo

vid card: 4770, might upgrade it depending on what xfx decides to do with the ticket

hds: 1ssd, 3 regular

dvd: 1

ram: 1gbx4

fans: 2 front, 2 back, 1 cpu fan

 

My budget is 75, but willing to spend $100 at the most.

They have 5 years, 2 more compared to OCZ

Either of those PSUs should be ample for your set-up. I'd recommend the Corsair, simply because you get 30W extra (I know that's a small wattage increase but the more the better ), it's $70 after rebate and shipping is a bit cheaper than the Seasonic. In saying that the Seasonic has 80 PLUS Bronze certification as opposed to just the 80 PLUS certification of the Corsair, meaning on paper the Seasonic is 2% more efficient; and it's only $65. In my opinion though, you can't go wrong with either Corsair is a reliable brand and Seasonic is a reputable OEM manufacturer - just choose the one which best suits your pocket.

You can not go wrong with Corsair, I just bought a 600watt from their system builder series because it was cheaper than the 550. I works just fine but it has a shorter warranty and is actually less powerful than the 550.

I have had a corsair 650 for 6 months now and it hasn't flinched once.

 

Don't get me wrong Seasonic is an excellent power supply company too. That 520 is actually more powerful than the 600 watt I recently bought. Either one is a good choice.

Either one would be good, I prefer the Cosair.

Be sure and look at your case and make sure the way the unit will draw and vent is to your liking.

seasonic all the way, even though it is lower wattage it sure can pull more overall. don't let the wattage confuse you that series is amazing for the price.

You will be fine for now, but future upgrades would make me suggest some extra watts (otherwise you will have to pay it later). i think the HX series (some yX series at least) have 7 years warranty from corsair
