RATE MY FIRST BUILD

So I embarked on quite the journey today. Thats right I built my first PC... Thought I'd share it with you wonderful people and get your perspective. Now I should clarify, all Iv'e done so far is order everything on newegg, it has yet to arrive. Although I am fairly confident that I'll be able to assemble everything correctly as the past two years I've done plenty of research and tinkered with several scrap'd PC's. Just salavaging what I can from them and consolidationg the parts into an atleast working machine... haha :P

But this is my first starting from scratch and more than half decent build! So basically I've been wanting something that could play all those fantastic looking games for quite some time now... But all Ive had is a joke of a Dell laptop with no gpu and a piss poor apu, so it seemed like it was never gonna happen. But I've had a dream build in mind for some time and today it became a reality! :D

I set out on this project having in mind something that could handle games like:

-ArmA 3

-Metro: Last Light

-ArmA 2: DayZ Mod

-Fallout NV: (Heavy GFX Mod's)

-AoE II HD (w/ pesky cpu lag)

-MW2 Multiplayer

-MoH Multiplayer

-Chivalry: Midieval Warfare

-Skyrim (Some GFX Mod;s)

-Diablo 3

-Etc... All at high-ish to ultra graphics at reasonable framerate, (possibly while twitch streaming) and I think I accomplished just that.

If anything jumps out at you as majorily incompatible let me know! I did a decent amount of research and truly believe its going to startup that first time, just fine... BUT honestly compared to the veterans here at OCC I probly know next to nothing. So here's the build:

1. - I started with a decent highly rated Asus AM3+ mobo:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131873

2. - Decided to go 8 core with the CPU, just for shits/giggles and AoE II HD:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113285

3. - Then a friend reccomended this sexy beast of a GPU:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130932

4. - After that I went crazy with the RaM... 24gb DDR3 1600 crazy:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231314

and

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231568

5. - And I'll Raid 0 two of these:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147247

(For 240GB of fast booting and short loading screens...)

6. - I then decided on an Asus 7.1channel Sound Card:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829132006

(To go well with the SteelSeries 9H headset i also orded...)

...Figured I'd go standard with seven and eight...

7. - Asus 802,11b/g/n Wireless adapter:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833320143R

8. - Asus 24x DVD Burner:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135204

9. - Then I'd house all this glory in a Cougar Volant Case:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811553006

10. - And power it with a 600W EVGA PSU:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438014R

...So how did I do? First I know 240gb of SSD isnt alot but I have plenty of external storage AND a 1tb I can pull out of a junker if I ever really need the storage. Also I purchased a dual 2.5" SSD to 3.5" mounting kit cause case only mounts a single SSD without it.

Anyways I want your advice/opnions/etc... I do plan on upgrading case fans, cpu heatsink, and anything else I may need to, in just a few short months. So what I need to know is...

- Will it boot?

- Do you see any major bottlenecks?

- Anything I should STRONGLY consider upgrading/replacing when the time comes?

- Hell, anything I should return/replace immediately?

Thank you for reading this, I can't wait for your input! Sorry if I rambled at all. I havent slept in 36 or so hours haha. Goodnight all and thanks. - H37

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I also got these goodies to add to a great gaming experience...

- Func KB-460 Wired Gaming Keyboard:

- SteelSeries Sensei RAW:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826249093

- Wired Xbox 360 Controller: (I use to be a fanboy/still love that controller feel)

- SteelSeries "9H"  7.1ch Headset:

I would recommend going for intel. An i5 4670k will out perform that amd with ease.

Also, you might want to consider a 3rd party CPU cooler, so you can overclock your components for even moar power!

The gtx 760 is a good card to start out with, but you can do better than that ;P

An example would be the AMD 280x: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121803R

For just 13 dollars more, you can get quite a performance jump compared to the gtx 760.

For the psu i would choose this one, not only because it is in stock, but it will last you a lot longer if you decide to upgrade.

I wouldn't go with 2 different RAM sticks as well, just choose the 16gb kit and you will be fine.

Most motherboards do a bit difficult when combining RAM or filling out all the RAM slots.

So for now, your build gets a solid 6.5 out of 10 :P

You sir are a gift from heaven...

I was able to cancel my order and under your guidance and others I would like to repick my gpu, cpu and mobo, if thats all right. :D

BTW you've convinced me I'm just gonna stick with the 16gb RaM... But the RAID SSD's I think Is a good idea right? I wont have anything on there I would ever worry about losing forever or dont already have backed up.

That cpu tho was a little pricey... anything intel or amd inthat $150-200 thats a better pick than what I have listed?

Thank you. Seriously, Thank you.

Do you have a total price range of what you want to spend on this dream rig of yours?

I can snoop around newegg and see what i can do for you :)

Is it worth the $ Raid 0-ing two SSD's? Im even starting to question that. :P

The 16GB RaM, Volant Case, 7.1ch soundcard and peripheals, I coulndt cancel the order on...

But honestly im ok with all of those...

So $20 dvd burner... $20 wireless adapter... and $900 for the cpu/gpu/mobo/ssd/psu

I don't plan on OC UNTIL after the upgrade in a few months. At which point ill get a good heatsink. but that doesnt mean I shouldnt get a decent cpu now.

Let's say $800-900 between the cpu/gpu/mobo and ssd (or ssd's)

Is it worth the $ Raid 0-ing two SSD's? Im even starting to question that. :P

I would just go for a single - bigger SSD, it is saver, and the performance gain from raid-0 with SSD's is really minimal.

I will check on newegg and see what i can find for 800/900 dollars. I'll keep you posted :)

Thanks! Hope you caught I updated that last post to be $900 for the cpu/mobo/gpu/ssd/psu...

I know thats probly stretching the budget thin. I might be able to push $1000 though just barely.

A single SSD it is than. So whatever is the best deal upwards of 200gb

Agree with everything except that open box R9 280x :-/

Rather get a brand new Gigabyte R9 280X OC (with a 3 year warranty, not 30 day) for only $36 more (fits well into your budget) here : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125490

Then I think you are good to go

Havent noticed the "open box" thing D:

But how bad can it be? He doesn't need any accessories as his PSU will support all the connections just fine (if these are happen to be missing).

That warranty is a thing tho...

If it is a big deal, then i would suggest to go with Nyt's suggestion and get the one he linked to.
