System at stock not stable

Recommended Posts

Best of luck on the memory stress testing.  I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

If this fixes the problem, then you can probably squeak by with your existing power supply for a while.  When you decide you want another power supply maybe you'll have enough funds to look at something in the 650W range.

I know for sure that a good 550W power supply will run your system without issue - but when it comes to power supplies I always over provision when I'm buying them for myself.  So this really becomes a question of;

What is the minimum power supply I can get by with

or

What is the best power supply for my current system

Two different objectives with two different answers   :)

I think I'll return the motherboard and get this(6+2+2 power phase): http://www.amazon.co.uk/M5A97-EVO-R2-0-Motherboard-eS-ATA/dp/B008RPZ5H8/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1386782638&sr=8-3&keywords=asus+amd+970

Or the normal version(4+2 power phase) for 13 pounds cheaper: http://www.amazon.co.uk/M5A97-R2-0-Motherboard-PCI-Express-Flashback/dp/B008RPYB0U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1386782638&sr=8-1&keywords=asus+amd+970

At least it would properly support an upgrade or at least support this CPU power wise properly(up to 140W cpu, this is '101W'), could also overclock :) Plus I had good experience with ASUS and their PC Probe software. Plus the Ballistix MOD Utility should work.
