  1. Go for a WD Caviar Black. I LOVE my Saphire 5770 Vapor - X and Antec 900 case. I use one Gelid fan and the whole setup is whisper quiet even when gaming or benchmarking. See my sig for the full setup. My budget was the same as yours.

  4. Its a dell with 1920 x 1080 at 60Hz. I know that a lot of people are suggesting the 58xx cards but I'm thinking I'm going to start with a 5770 and add another in crossfire when I need it. I won't be doing much FPS play on my system. I use the 360 and PS3 for that. I would mostly be using my desktop for RTSs and RPGs. Not to mention the media server/torrent machine/workstation that I need. My main goal with this build is to update from my 2.7 Ghz P4 into something with a good/great upgrade path that I can sneek past the finance committee (i.e. Wife=)
  5. So then it would be beneficial to wait for the 950 or do they just start calling the previous 920/930 chip quality 950s now?lol I suppose they probably have some way of quantifying the quality and hope its not just all market BS.
  6. Thanks Supermep and everyone else. Taking all of your advice these are the modifications I have come up with. 7. I've read that there is no true difference between the i7 920/930/950. Just the freq it ships with from the factory. Is this truly the case or is there any good reason to wait for the 950 price drop rather than picking up a 930 now? Thanks
  8. Thanks for everyone's feedback. I went with the GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD3R for $189 thanks to your advice. I am pretty locked in on everything now but the memory and CPU cooler. I think I want to stay with air cooled options because the Antec 900-Two and the fans I'm gonna add should lend itself to good air flow although the H50 does look cool, no pun intended. I know the Noctua gets great reviews, and I'm probably gonna get destroyed for this, but damn its ugly. What do you think of the Venomous-X with a push/pull setup? Also what about coolermaster fans?
  9. Joel - I think you have me sold on the x58-ud3r. Looks like a sweet board at a great price. I liked the P6T for the same reasons and Asus overclocking software seems nice however not necessary. I'm still debating on coolers though. So far I'm taking everyones advice and scrapping the Coolermater V8. Just haven't decided on another yet. What about the ZALMAN 9500A-LED 92mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler? Seems to get great user reviews on Newegg.
  10. Thanks Chuckles and Wevvspot. I think I will go with the G-Skill. However I'm not sure about the P6X58D-E. I don't see that it supports Crossfire and I'm really leaning towards ATI right now. Plus the P6T supports Crossfire and SLI so it would give me some flexibility.
  11. Any thoughts on this Ram rather than the Dominator? OCZ Gold 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Low Voltage Desktop Memory Model OCZ3G1600LV6GK $170

  14. Hey All, I'm a new member here. After reading through the Forum posts I really respect you opinions and would like to know what you think of my proposed build. My goal is to build a rig that will be an everyday workhorse with SOME gaming on it. I'm looking to keep the price to around $1200. My idea is to build a system with a good upgrade path so I am thinking I want to stay with a 1366 socket and a 5770 graphics card that I can later add another to in Crossfire when needed. I also plan on overclocking as much as possible while maintaining a 'stable' system. What do you think? I'd love to hear your feedback.
