  1. I agree that site is a little weird. The fans do turn on, the golden triangle was oriented the same way as the old processor. I've swapped out cpus before so I'm pretty sure the paste was applied correctly.
  2. Just put the old cpu back in. Working fine. The new cpu came off with the heat sink. Not sure what that means. I inserted it with the ZIF, seemed securely in place. Maybe too much paste?
  3. Hey everyone. I am updating a cpu for a family member, but all I get after the upgrade is a black screen. No POST, no beeps. I thought that I was careful with compatibility, I don't know what the problem is. The computer is an HP a4327c. The motherboard is a Pegatron NARRA 5 The new cpu is AMD Athlon II X4 645 Compatibility guidelines are given here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01959710&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en#N191 I am within the power limit of 95watts. The new cpu has socket AM3, the motherboard is AM2+, which is compatible with AM3. (There is a note on the guideline site that states that the board is only compatible with AM2+ processors, but the cpu it came with is AM3 anyway). I checked for BIOS updates, but none are available. Any ideas what the issue could be?
  4. Great, just needed someone to agree with me to make sure I wasn't crazy. I'll go with 2700 Thanks guys
  5. The existing 3200 seems to be auto clocking to 2100 speeds though (133mhz)
  6. Yup, it supports 2Gb max, so that is what I am going with. I'd like to have the fastest though and at this point I just don't know if that is 2700 or 3200 in terms of compatibility. It obviously works with 3200 now, but only at 132mhz so I'm thinking incompatibility (maybe).
  7. These are definitely helpful tips, but the main question here is if the chipset says it supports pc2100 or pc2700, why is pc3200 considered compatible? It doesn't seem that they are, going off of the chipset specs. Could this explain why it is running at 132mhz instead of 200?
  8. Hey everyone, I could use a little advice. I am upgrading an old computer ('03ish), a dell dimension 2400. I don't have the service tag #. I am going to upgrade the CPU and RAM. The CPU I've pretty much got picked out. I'll get this one. The RAM I'm having trouble with. According to Speccy, the PC currently has pc3200 200mhz (running at 132mhz). The chipset is i845G. The motherboard is model 0F5949. According to the chipset wiki, the chipset supports pc2100 266mhz or pc2700 333mhz. Is it me or are the existing chipset and RAM incompatible? To upgrade should I be buying the existing pc3200 200mhz specs (with more capacity, obviously) or should I go with pc2700 333mhz? Thanks guys
  9. I found a tutorial on how to make your Rosewill router be the repeater. Just follow the tutorial and bridge it to your Encore routers WiFi network. I'd imagine that at the top of page 5 when it says to enter your own security that you should actually match your Encore routers security. I suppose try one and if it doesn't work, try the other. Tutorial Link
  10. The router is trendnet TEW-633GR. It does 802.11bgn (2.4GHz only). My phone can do the same +a. When other devices lose their connection, they cannot reconnect until the router has been reset. My guess is that the router is getting too old to be compatible but it doesn't feel like its been too long. and I cant figure out what is incompatible.
  11. Hi everyone, I'm looking for a little help with an issue I've been having with my phone and wifi. Ever since I got the Galaxy Nexus and try to use its wifi, the router drops the signal for all wireless devices after a short time. Only a reset will get it working again, but it will continue to drop the signal every few minutes. The problem is clearly the phone, I just can't think of any reason for this to happen though. Has anyone else experienced this or have any ideas?
  12. To the discredit of my own troubleshooting skills, I never thought a problem like this could be fixed by such an easy solution as getting new drivers. But after trying it became obvious that the old drivers were the problem. Issue fixed Thanks for trying.
  13. Hey everybody. I'm having a very annoying problem that I've put up with for about 4 months but finally want to get to the bottom of. My downloads keep stopping. For example if I download a large file it will stop at some arbitrary point. If my browsers download manager didn't have a pause and restart button I'd have to restart these downloads completely. Another example and the most annoying: Youtube. 780 and 1080 videos frequently stop streaming. I constantly have to step down the resolution and then step it back up for it to continue at the resolution that I want. [Edit] I've removed the stuff about pinging because after spending some time on the other computers on my network I've found that there is no problem with them. So this is only happening with my main computer and it started the day I got it. Using the built in NIC on ASUS P8P67 REV 3.1 Any help you guys can offer will be appreciated.
  14. Since you've been using 'em for a while have you noticed if prices are decreasing? A dollar a disc doesn't sound so great and I could be at this for a while. Apparantly there's a big demand for VHS to DVD conversions! I'm charging $10 a tape, so 10% goes into just the discs! Just a dollar but still 10% sounds big hah.
  15. Noticed the topic got moved, sorry for the misplacement. I got the Verbatims and everything is working great now! So thanks for reinforcing the fact that they work better, I needed to hear that again before I plunged in on another pack of DVD DLs. And now to put these Memorex DVDs in the microwave...
